OOO
After 66 days of classic arcade gaming and competition, MGLXXXIII has now come to a close. The final standings are below: CONGRATULATIONS to the Top 20 in MGL33 … where we had 42 competitors battle it out over 9 games … of which 5 games were the first time ever played in the MGL. These were Galaga 88, The End, Rally-X, Lock ‘N Chase and Donkey Kong 3. Congratulations to Barra for winning MGL33 … he wins it with placings 14th, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 2nd, 2nd and 2nd. His tournament start was below average on Bubble Bobble, however great play in the following games saw him take the lead on Day 44 and he kept it that way to the very end. The final margin was 13 points. Andrew has now equaled the 2nd best all time MGL record of 5 wins with DKong. DaLar gamed excellently again after winning the previous MGL32. Can you believe after 66 days, it came down to the last few minutes on the last day of competition to decide the other podium spots. This time he finished in a tie with 864 points and won the head to head tiebreaker 5:4 for a brilliant 2nd place. He scored 90 points or more in all games, wins three, makes it a very close finish and finishes great. terencew played extremely well for his best finish in the MGL with a close and tremendous 3rd place. Taking the lead several times during the tournament he just could not hold on in the later games. He looked out of the top 3 with only a few days to go, but he hit back to finish with placings of 2nd, 6th, 8th, 4th, 4th, 7th, 3rd, 8th and 3rd which were all excellent. That’s at least 93 points in all games. magrinder came in a very close 4th place and just missed out on 2nd place by only 2 points. Every point does count. He scored 93 points or more in all games as well, wins one and earned valuable MGL points to keep the lead in the CAG World Championships 2017. Great play! camaro also had a slow start on Game 1 like the MGL33 champion, but played very strongly and posted some great scores for the remainder of the games to take out 5th place. He also came first in that very tough game known as Rally-X. RMacauley scored 91 or more points in 7 games, 89 points on Donkey Kong 3 and 79 points on Tapper for 6th place. Incredibly, this is Robert’s 20th consecutive MGL, and in every one of those 20 x MGLs he has finished in 6th place or higher. Amazing. creech also had score problems with Game 1 like the eventual MGL champion and camaro. And like them he played very steadily and kept at it to post a very strong 7th place in the MGL. Congratulations on your best ever finish, after placings of 11th, 10th and 8th in previous MGLs, all of which have been excellent results. SectionZ came 2nd in Tapper and 3rd in Tutankham, and with his other fine scores, finished in 8th place. That’s his best finish since MGL26, well played. SMK achieved 4th place in Galaga 88 and 3rd place in Rally-X as highlights in his final scorecard to take out a fine 9th place. gadzooks played bravely with injury and gusto to take out a very well established 10th place. He equals his best finish with that of MGL32. In the battle for 11th place, Sawys scored only 7 points more to take it out from fok999 who finished in 12th place. Not only do they game in the same country, they finished just as close on the scoreboard. Félicitations Messieurs. Bien joué. Some say “unlucky for some 13”, however RichyS gamed really well and improved greatly to record his best ever finish in the MGL with 13th place. Despite the drip, drip, drip, that was some great gaming right there. Nice work. CrazyKongFan scored best in Game 1 and Game 9, the start and finish, to earn a very good 14th place. John73 found some great moments in gaming and almost scored 1 million points on Bomb Jack for 4th place as an example. He finished with an accomplished 15th place, equaling his placing in MGL32. yankeebest played in his first ever MGL and smashed Galaga 88 with a top score over 1 million points. Finishing in 16th place, this gamer can play great. bigredbird scored a high of 9th place on Game 1 with 1.783 million and managed to hit 17th place under some challenging circumstances. thejudge gamed competitively in all games including his best on Donkey Kong 3 with 11th place to finish nicely in 18th place. He tied with Bishop for 18th place both having 723 points, but a better head to head count of 5:4 secured the higher finish. Bishop scored his best in Lock ‘N Chase with 12th place and finished overall in a well earned 19th place. kane finished with 12th place in the last game and his best game result in the tournament to take out 20th place. Congratulations on making the Top 20! Vikleroy improved by 4 places on MGL32 to finish in 21st place. Well done. BandontheRun equaled his MGL32 finish, to take out 22nd place, nicely gamed. For all those gamers who finished from 23rd place to 42nd place, there were some great scores there and some great competition which made everyone game that much harder. Well played as well. The Country Top 5 finish was New Zealand 1st, Denmark 2nd, Australia 3rd, USA 4th and Australia 5th. http://i.imgur.com/N7EEQux.png http://i.imgur.com/UtA2PKR.png http://i.imgur.com/p5dS4Mx.png http://i.imgur.com/WqIzot4.png http://i.imgur.com/p5dS4Mx.png With 9 games contested there were 7 different game winners … DaLar (3), Barra (1), yankeebest (1), kernzyp (1), camaro (1), magrinder (1) and gstrain (1) Congratulations to the game winners for hitting the high score on their game(s) … I have updated the virtual trophies for the Top 3 … with the brave worrior from that deadly game known as Wizard of Wor … Champion: Barra 2nd: DaLar 3rd: terencew Looking back on the tournament, we had 5 games out of 9 never played before in the MGL. That’s over 50% new and we haven’t had that many new games since MGL25 in mid 2015. We had gamers from 9 countries compete in a varied field of games, including from France, Sweden, Canada, Denmark, Wales, England, New Zealand, USA and Australia. It’s good to see that gaming is a universal language and that there is great talent, interest and competition from all of those countries. I hope this will grow in the future. The tips posted by several gamers were again a highlight of the competition. Posting and breaking down the game through experience, what you discover and what you read, really provides an insight to the depth of these games and how to improve your score. Thank you to those who make the effort, share and help everyone else to appreciate the games. I was quite amazed to see that 15 gamers scored over 1 million points on Game 1 Bubble Bobble, which is an amazing achievement by so many, with another 4 gamers scoring 900K+. That really shows that when gamers stick to it and learn as much as they can, great scores are possible. Galaga 88 was a great sequel to the original Galaga and Bomb Jack was a popular favourite with music from the Beatles in Lady Madonna. Both were very challenging games. Then was it or was it not, The End was a very strange game where a glitch in the MAME version made the game even more interesting or even more frustrating for some. Then time for Game 5 and a really, really tough game in Rally-X, never played before and may never since. I was tossing around whether this would be Game 9 or not, but hey, let’s make sure everyone has a slice of this tough dice and so it was 5. Tapper was next and Lauren Featherstone recently broke the arcade world record, so a clever game with beverages, and a great nomination. Lock ‘N Chase was a very odd game, yes it was Game 7 too, with bizarre game strategy. The sequel to the sequel was next in Donkey Kong 3, and how differently it plays to the original Donkey Kong. To finish off the Fab 9, Tutankham was last to play. It did not disappoint as I remember playing this one in the arcades chewing my money, so I stopped the chewing. Now you could play this game for free and only chew your credits instead of your cash. That’s part of the beauty of CAG gaming in the MGL today. So there you have it, gamers nominated all of the games and 9 were drawn randomly out of the hat, a bit like the Sorting Hat in Harry Potter. And like Harry Potter or Blade Runner 2049 (which I enjoyed watching a few days ago), I hope your imagination was rekindled and your skills and scores were improved, to enjoy the magic while it lasted, during MGLXXXIII. RMacauley
First and foremost a huge thanks to OOO for running yet another awesome MGL. I'd tip my hat to you if I was wearing one. ;) Congrats to Barra, DaLar, and terencew on your top 3 finishes. Barra may or may not remember me telling him in NZ a few years ago that he'd be right up there with the best of them in the old Funspot tournaments. Glad to see he keeps proving me right and it's just a matter of time before he overtakes my record of MGL wins. Tapper was always going to be my downfall. I was happy with my scores on the other 8 games. Looking forward to MGL XXXIV. Can we play Burgertime and Willow for 9 weeks? :lol
Barra
Another awesome tournament The games really fell in my favor, had not played The End before but had put a decent amount of time into everything else. Still super mad at bubble bobble, could've made it a new MGL record if a decent game was chosen first :lol (I think). Please never make me play it or Rainbow Islands again. :lol Congrats to the others for placing, I know some of you grinded super hard on games you hate. I have a feeling that will be me next time. Next MGL setting up an exciting finish in the overall Champs :)
creech77
Congrats to the top 3 finishers! :023: Nice playing by all, and thank you for letting me be a part of this fantastic tournament. And of course, big thanks to Games Master OOO for hosting the MGL. :ty What can I say, I had a blast as always participating in MGL 33. :) I'm already counting the days till the next one.:039:
SMK
And magrinder just needed 180 more points in Tutankham to have finished 3rd overall. Yea, I could hear him swearing all the way over here in Orlando.:realmad::D Congrats to all those who participated and offered up their challenges in their own unique way. As OOO said, this one had more than half of the games introduced to the MGL tournament for the first time, and some of them I either have never played before, or haven't played in ages. As I've said in the past, there's something about the MGL that keeps me coming back for more. :) I just wish I could dedicate more time to it to submit higher scores. I guess that's what happens when you juggle 2 jobs. Lets see what happens in the next one. Congrats Andrew for another victory! Your Curriculum Vitae is looking really good. ;) I think the highlight for me was watching magrinder's stream on half of my screen while I was playing the same game (Rally X) on the other side of my screen. As we pushed each other to raise our scores. Back and forth. :) Tongki: Congrats on a surpurb score on Galaga 88. Somewhere online a while back, I saw that you had taken this game to new heights. I believe it was during one of Mark Alpiger's tournaments where you scored either just under or just over the 2M mark. Correct me if I'm wrong. Nice to see you jumped in and had some fun. :) Looking forward to competing with you in the next one. :) Oh and it goes without saying, THANK YOU OOO for your dedication in keeping this event going as long as you have. Can't wait to climb aboard in the next one. :)
terencew
Huge thanks to OOO again for an amazing, super fun tournament! You probably couldn't tell with my griping, complaints about the bad timing of my work during the closing stages of games, occasional pleas for everyone to stop playing (teehee!), but I absolutely had a blast! Even through the games I didn't enjoy! A big well played & thanks to everyone! The competition was fierce, but the support and encouragement amongst us was sincerely heartwarming! And the number of near-things throughout was unbelievable! A special thanks and congratulations to Barra on the overall win, and also to DaLar & Magrinder for raising my blood pressure right up to the end! I am humbled to have kept pace with you guys all the way through! Can't wait until the next one!
magrinder
Well done to all especially the top 3. And magrinder just needed 180 more points in Tutankham to have finished 3rd overall. It wasn't due to a lack of effort... :D Thanks Paul Hornitszky for your organization. As always, your efforts are always well received by all. Congrats everyone! Massive huge point spread win Barra. Well done. As usual, I also had an opportunity to discover some new games along the way as well. fok999
another great tournament ! which I did not participate much for lack of time and motivation also I have to admit :( the proposed games gave me a hard time and I think pushed to the dark side ... thanks to 000 and the participants who achieved very high scores. bigredbird
Great job on another tournament @OOO Congrats to the top three - @Barra @DaLar @terencew As some of you are aware, one of my kids is going through some serious health issues at the moment and I simply haven't had the time (or motivation) to get involved in this tournament other than a token game of each to stay included. I am looking forward to MGL XXXIV and hope I can participate a bit more. I am pretty sure that Mr. Do! will be eligible for nominations next time and encourage all of you to add it to your noms list.
