Thinking/Need to to upgrade the car AUDI?

cost of parts and its a up market car,i also think that they assume if you can afford a audi , you can afford the running costs..also dont forget to check the cost of insurance..LOL

So taking that all into account, is it worth it against a Newer Forester or similar.

I like a good drive ;)

European cars are great, until they break down, then it is expensive

Like how expensive ? So a Jap clutch is $1100 what is an Audi?

What would the average service be?

I just had the clutch/pressure plate and bearing replaced in my Great Wall dual cab along with the clutch master cylinder and the total cost inc labour was $230. They also did it overnight.

Even in China, the cost of Audi parts is many times that of standard cars.

I would caution against buying one that isn't under new car warranty.

The 2.0 TFSI is a timebomb. Recommend steering clear of that motor in the price bracket.

Also re servicing. I've got a Porsche at the moment and servicing price is fine so long as you don't go to the dealer when you are out of warranty!

dunno guys, I own a Audi A5 and have had BMW's etc. Cost of service for my Audi is not exorbitant in terms of say a Holden of which I also own. Parts another story. Reliability, quality, ride, enjoyment no comparison - chalk and cheese.

I don't know what others are talking about and whether they have actually owned such cars. Last service $500 approx, last holden service $480 both in 2016. Both cars similar manuf dates.

Now would I buy a $20k Audi....no as its getting there in age and things go wrong with all cars that are 10 years plus I figure. Tranny goes, the price is close to a nice replacement car lol

Just a bit of advice when looking at these makes of cars, I used to think that Audi, BMW, Mercedes cars were the top of the range when it comes to cars that I would like to own, that was until I could afford one.

I bought a new 2014 Mercedes C180 coupe in 2014 approx $60,000, great car to drive, plenty of power, well built, First service was $1200, Second was $1400, on a new car I thought what are they doing for this money, Pretty much changing oil and filter, a quick check over and plug in the computer for a quick read of its vital signs, I did a check around and there a plenty of specialists who charge like specialists, and there are a few that give you value for money.

I found a guy who worked on a fair few prestige models used the same oil that the dealer recommended with the manufacturers oil filter did the same checks with the same $$$ computer and charged $350 for the last 2 services before I sold it, so you can get it serviced no problem at the right price, you just need to find the honest ones.

As for the car itself, Build and performance were great, but not really impressed, I have had more features in a Base Hyundai, I had it 2 years and 35000ks and lost $30,000 when I sold it.

I thought when I purchased it it was going to be the greatest car I have ever owned, But It gave me a bit of wow, and that was it, its just a car.

I now have a Renault Koleos that cost half the price, has 10 times more features and luxury, has Nissan underpinnings and goes great, cheap to service, not the best car, but it does exactly what I need it to do and at a level of comfort that I'm happy with.

Pretty much what I'm trying to say, is don't get caught up in the brand, look for the quality that suits you, for $20000 there are plenty of great cars.

agree with above except for performance/quality aspect to a degree. The so called prestige cars do give a better ride IMO especially if you do a lot of driving both time and distance. But yes you get none of the features unless you pay for them and then you'll most often get the latest tech that you cannot get from say Mazda/holden and the like. I can tell you 700k's in an Audi and say my holden calais , and I'm buggered after the drive with the holden.

But there is better cars value for money than the Euros IMO

Now your case, I think you will get better value, reliability, newer, and maybe feature packed with a standard car than say a BMW or the like. I would be going down that path.

Good luck with your search mate. My only advise is try to buy as much safety features as you can for the money you have devoted for this project

I recently bought a 2008 Lexus RX400h with full service history, 120kms for $17k. Absolutely fabulous value for money. The quality of the fitout and luxury items items that come standard are brilliant.

It's part of the Toyota family so servicing is very reasonable, unless you use the dealer franchises.

Having driven Australian-made sedans all my life, I would not entertain going back. Think the Lexus marque gives any of the traditional European cars a run for their money.

Yeah I heard that how much difference and do you know why?

A few years back they were making Audi's like interlocked puzzles. To get to one part you had to remove five more, and servicing them took forever because of that. So even at places that weren't trying to rip you off Audi's in particular could be expensive.

I think the model under discussion in the OP is a bit newer than the original problem, so it might be ok in that regard.

I sum up a car like this. How much did it cost to buy, how much does it cost to have it one the road and how much did loose when I sold it.

I found the best cars company cars because of the no cost no matter what they are.

Using a car as a status symbol will loose you more money than anything else.

A brand new car is probably the biggest waste of money you can do in your life in my opinion.

I look at all the cars I have had and using my very first sentence in this post as a guide, the best I have had was a 10 year old Range Rover. It cost me $7000, not bad for a $120,000 new car just 10 years prior.

I did oil changes myself and the service.

The car never had an issue other than the thirst for fuel from the 4.6 liter V8 but I sold that car 8 years later for $7000.

I know rangys don't have a good reputation but in my case, this car was by far the "best value for money".

Is a car worth more than $30,000?. I don't think so.

How reliable is a car?. Only time will tell no matter what the brand.

Is the car you own actually suitable for your current lifestyle?.

This to me is the very most important question you must ask yourself.

We will all be in for a shock as far a car parts are concerned.

Who knows what the Kingswood/Commodore/Falcon of the 21st century is going to be, cars that go forever with cheap plentiful parts available everywhere.

Anyone seen the movie Robots?

All the car companies don't want you to buy spare parts, they are in the business of making cars not spare parts.

Did you see my post about replacing the entire clutch system in my Great Wall ute for $230 inc labour?

There are zillions of Audis in China and aftermarket parts are plentiful and cheap here.

Yes, the car companies don't want you fixing them but the Chinese aren't about to let an opportunity like this pass by.

So the Chinese make AUDI aftermarket parts, that's interesting to know.

I am still in two minds about this car, I do like it a lot but some of the comments here have made me second guess the decision.

I suppose I should take it for a drive and see if I actually like the ride first.

Thanks for everyone's advice

A bit of well earned luxury goes a long way and the stigma of European expense in terms of servicing and maintenance is more a myth now. Every decent mechanic is armed with the correct diagnostic equipment and scanners and can trouble shoot and fix issues as easily as the Audi franchise.

A Euro car may cost you a bit more but as above, but if it's something you want, go for it, you've earned it. The VAG forums are great for information and advise, check them out.

I've had Euro now for quite a few years and really enjoy them.

Cheers WOKA

Took it for a test drive last night, and very impressed. The 2.0T is nice and punchy with 211 HP. Oh and the comfort and ride I didn't want to get out.

I have been hooked up with a couple of European car mechanics through work, who will service and repair at normal rate. So have that sorted.

Getting it checked out today, fingers crossed its all good.

You can always spend a bit of extra coin and get a PPI from an independent garage.. A pre-purchase inspection.
