Virtual pin cabinet help

Gruntis

Question

Hey guys.

Looking for ideas on how to go about the side rails and lock down bar. The width of the cab won't work with a actual lock down bar so what have people done in this situation??

Also is it better to go with genuine side rails or just some angled aluminium or similar?

Cheers

Gonna need more details on the actual cab. Original? Size? if home-made what size? what materials?

If its a standard size then commercial parts fit. If not you have to either make your own or have someone else do it for you

If you are doing a non-standard length as well for the cabinet then it may be worth getting custom side rails. Call a couple of stainless steel places and ask for pricing - they will be able to bend it up so it has the same profile as "real" siderails with a nice radius to the right angle bend.

Otherwise you could use something like this:

The lockdown bar is a different story as it needs to be made from a much thicker metal and it takes a bit of skill to get the corners just right. I'd suggest a DIY approach and maybe make it from MDF, then wrap it with some brushed steel patterned vinyl. It won't be quite the same, but MDF is very easy to work and you can get the right edge and corner profile by using a rounding over bit in a router. With a strip of right angle on the front edge (Bunnings has some plastic right angle strip that would do the job nicely) it will then sit nicely over the glass. The panel can be secured to the cabinet by number of different methods.
