After 66 days of tough classic arcade gaming and competition, MGLXXXII has now come to a close.

The final standings are below:

CONGRATULATIONS to the Top 20 in MGL32 … where we had 39 competitors battle it out over 9 games … of which 2 games were the first time ever played in the MGL. These were Space Invaders Part II and Bubbles, both games long overdue to be played in the MGL.

Congratulations to DaLar for winning MGL32 … he wins it with placings 7th, 1st, 6th, 5th, 7th, 2nd, 1st, 1st and 5th. After Day 10 he took the lead and worked hard to keep it that way. He succeeded all the way to the end by Day 66, a great effort in a close competition. Congratulations on your 2nd MGL win and valuable CAG World Championship for 2017 points. The margin was only 7 points.

magrinder played excellent and just missed out again for the title to finish in 2nd place. He scores 90 points or more in all games, wins one, makes it a close finish and finishes great.

Barra comes in at a surprising 3rd place, with a very strong finish to the tournament, that may just keep him in the race for the CAG World Championship title. After an opening three games finishing 19th, 14th and 15th it looked grim, but to his credit, he bounced back with great performances of 3rd, 5th, 3rd, 5th and 2nd.

fok999 finds great form and his mojo to take out an excellent 4th place. A big improvement on his 11th placing in MGL31, he wins Asteroids and becomes the best gamer from France in this one.

RMacauley scored well in most games like in Shinobi, Circus Charlie and Asteroids for some new PBs to finish one better than last MGL to take out 5th place ... that’s a Top 6 finish in his last 19 consecutive MGLs … this guy just keeps rewriting the history books.

After finishing 12th in MGL31, bigredbird makes a huge improvement to finish in a stellar 6th place. Despite a low score on Shinobi with 23rd place, great gaming on the others sealed a great finish.

Similarly from 15th place in MGL31, Rat played great in most games to make a big improvement to finish in 7th place. After winning the opening game of Space Invaders Part II with a great score, he hit nice scores on Asteroids with 2nd place plus 6th place on Circus Charlie.

creech made a brilliant return to the MGL including 3rd place in Bubbles to finish with an accomplished 8th place in the competition. That’s his highest finish in 3 x MGLs … congratulations.

Brad also made a welcome return to the MGL and finishes in 9th place. In Rainbow Islands and 10 Yard fight he made great scores to take out 2nd place in both games. That’s Brad’s 16th MGL and he still has what it takes … congratulations.

gadzooks in only his 3rd MGL, achieves a fine 10th place, his best ever finish after 36th in MGL30 and 13th in MGL31.

Snjspiteri missed out on the Top 10 by only 2 points, Jed 3 points, SectionZ 4 points and CrazyKongFan 6 points to finish with highly commendable placings in 11th to 14th respectively.

The Country Top 5 finish was Denmark 1st, USA 2nd, New Zealand 3rd, France 4th and Australia 5th.

With 9 games contested there were 7 different game winners …

DaLar (3), Rat (1), Snjspiteri (1), John73 (1), fok999 (1), magrinder (1) and CrazyKongFan (1)

Congratulations to the game winners for hitting the high score on their game(s) …

Looking back on the tournament, it was interesting that a Space Invaders game had not been played since MGL12 from 2011, that’s a 6 year wait to play this game again, and this version known as Part II was both colorful and very challenging. Some great tips on what to do like a free base on shot count and the approach made quite a difference. Likewise on color and challenge was Rainbow Islands, where many gamers put in the effort to learn this one and incredibly 13 gamers scored over 1 million - now that was awesome! 10 Yard Fight took some great skill and acceptance to do well, the video from Brad was helpful as well as the tips. Frogger has always been popular and frustrating at the same time, there are so many ways to get squished! fok999 posted a good video on Asteroids that was helpful to others and inspired some improved scores, plus some interesting history on Space Wars from Jed. Circus Charlie sure was a ball of fun with the great variety in events and the tip sharing on how to get extra men and extra points, despite the mockery from the elephant. A fighting/shooting game came up in Shinobi and some were good enough to finish the game. Then a new one from Williams in Bubbles turned up with the crazy blue sink that you had to clean and survive with roaches, blades, grime, the cleaning lady and more! Finally it was time to nibble on a tough and fast game called Nibbler, made even more famous by the movie Man Vs Snake. The gamers nominated these games and out they came to make up MGL32. I hope you all enjoyed the tournament and the next MGL of the 2017 season will be starting very soon …

Thanks everyone for a fun MGL 32.

As always, this was yet another exceptionally well run tournament by OOO. Thank you for your continued efforts in not only the MGL, but CAG as a whole.

A few highlights for me were discovering Bubbles and Circus Charlie, both games that I dismissed in the past but will likely to continue to play as a result of being pushed a bit here. I rather enjoyed Fok's reminder with Asteroids: sometimes it's best to just play the game without over thinking things. Many showed score increases after this reminder. All in all, it was a really difficult set of games this tournament.

DaLar is an animal!

Big thanks to @OOO, congrats and well played to everyone else, especially the respective & overall winners!

Bring on MGL33! Will try to make sure I poke my head in to all games next time, posting even the most nominal of embarrassing scores would have made a difference - missed out on at least 199 points (assuming last place in each of the games where I didn't post a score)!

I want to give a huge thanks to OOO for putting on such a great event (as always) and to all those who attended, making each and every event Paul puts on, that much better than the last. The competition was pretty fierce this go around, and it seems to be getting even more intense with each event that passes! Congrats to DaLar for his victory.

I'm glad I was able to finish playing all 9 games. At least on 2 occasions, I thought I wasn't going to be able to squeeze in some time to submit a score, but somehow found the time with life's unexpectancies. :)

I'm already looking forward to the next event! :)

Thank you @OOO for running another MGL to the highest degree, and supplying such awesome and well chosen prizes :)

Congratulations to the top 3 and everyone else who played and enjoyed their gaming, amazing standard of play with some massive scores :023:

An absolute brutal but great tournament overall. Congrats Dalar, way too strong this time around

I didn't fancy most of the games on the list however having prior experience on most of them helped tremendously. If I had to grind the likes of shinobi, circus charlie, rainbow islands, nibbler etc from scratch I'd really be questioning myself right now :lol

Most pleased with progress on nibbler, feel pretty close to bigger scores on that game but knowing me won't fire it up again until it comes up.

Thanks OOO for another awesome tournament, great to see so many participating. Always looking forward to the next one! Got my noms at the ready :D

Thanks OOO for yet another well run, fun MGL.

In hindsight you were right an average score by me on shinobi probably would have got me 7th (from memory the highest I would have ever placed) , but Ce La Vie.....next time I'll try and post for every game.......sometimes life gets in the way.

Congrats to all who played, improved and of course the top 3.....well done!!

Many thanks to OOO - well done the top 3. No duff games at all really (apart from Frogger :) ). Hope to have more time to put into the next one to see if I can get top 20 again.

Cheers from Wales.

My thoughts on MGL XXXII

Space Invaders 2

I always thought this was just a simple shooter. I enjoyed learning about the 'shotgun method', the no kill zone on the bottom row and shooting the bottom left guy last for a big bonus and a fireworks display. A great way to start the MGL.

Rainbow Islands

I hadn't played this before and liked the look of this straight away. Like Bubble Bobble, this game has a lot to discover and a lot to learn. I still have much to learn on this game but I was happy to smash my target of one million. This is a game that I was happy to play and will probably revisit sometime.

10 Yard Fight

I feel that I said (moaned) enough during the time this was played to make my feelings clear about this game. Shout out to @Jed for suggesting to put my moaning efforts into learning how to play the game, I think that got me a few thousand more points.

10/10 would not play again.

Frogger

I was (isn't everyone?) already familiar with Frogger and enjoyed a bash on this for a couple of weeks. I significantly improved on my PB so was happy with this selection.

The known glitches ruin the game a bit but it's a level playing field for everyone I guess.

littlebigredbird was pleased that a few players found Uncle Frogger.

Asteroids

I thought this was going to suck and would be a real drag over two weeks but it wasn't too bad. Changed my strategy a bit after watching @fok999 's video and went from UFO hunting to survival mode. This game turned out to be ok but I still hate the accuracy of the little flying saucer.

Circus Charlie

I like Circus Charlie. I like riding the lion. I like the money bag leeching on the first level. I liked discovering the hidden money bags on the monkey level. I like that magrinder thinks the monkeys were dogs. I liked the horse level. I like that the elephant upset magrinder with its judging looks. I liked watching magrinders weird Twitch streams during this time. I like the Lego model that OOO made of Charlie. This was a fun game for me.

Shinobi

Ugh.. Shinobi. Had a couple of games and decided I wasn't putting myself through some more 10 Yard Fight type pain and didn't play it again. Sure that cost me some points but as a wise old judging circus elephant once said, "sometimes one has to sacrifice points ignoring Shinobi to bring inner peace and calmness to one's life'.

Bubbles

Another game I had never played. Didn't like it initially but it grew on me like grime in a sink. I enjoyed the debate on whether the cleaning lady was tiny in a regular sized sink or if she was a regular sized lady in a giant sink. I am going with regular size lady that had a huge mess to clean up with gigantic razor blades as hazards. I have magrinder to thank again for picking up some strategies watching him on Twitch while another of his guests did some book readings for our listening pleasure. If you don't do drugs but want to experience what it is like to be in another reality then I highly recommend joining in on magrinders Twitch broadcasts.

Nibbler

I have played a bit of Nibbler before. Nibbler is ok but I have no idea how anyone has the patience to play this game to over one billion points. I didn't bother looking up any patterns for this but just developed my own and achieved my 100k+ target. Ride the snake.

Overall, a very enjoyable MGL. Congratulations to @DaLar @magrinder and @Barra for the top three places and to everyone else for the good competition and fun times.

Finally, a big thank you to @OOO for running another successful tournament. Lots of players and lots of engagement with each game. I am looking forward to the next one.

10/10

wow! a perfect score for 10 yard. That's awesome! ;)

On another unrelated note. @OOO it would be cool to have views, thoughts, and reccomendations from the winner, and best player in the AA MGL DaLar on this site where everyone could benefit from such an amazing all round gamer... Is there a language barrier or some other reason why he doesn't post scores or otherwise participate on AA ?

Just curious, no biggie. The CAG format is a very inclusive one and very successful given the engagement of players in MGL's nowadays :)

90% of my streams are me and my most loyal viewer, Shanebot. We spend the time silently grinding it out on whatever game is at hand.

I merely play off the audience I have at any given moment. If the viewers in the channel such as bigredbird convey another reality, who am I to do anything other than just follow along for the ride?

Another fantastic MGL thanks everyone, the entertaining and informative posts were of a high standard again and it was fun to share these cool games :)

I became distracted towards the end of the MGL by Centaur II turning up and demanding my attention :D

The date for the next Tassie Head 2 Head meet has been set (see sig) I have had the privilege of meeting a few of the MGL players in the past and it would be great to see them again and put to a face to other names in the MGL so consider coming along and joining in the fun.

I've never seen one of these in the wild that I can remember. Nice. Centaur was fun too though never played 2.

What's the bed sheet with bloody lettering hanging behind Centaur II say? If I should not have asked this, feel free not to respond. Perhaps some things are better left unaddressed. ;) I think it says "Mr. Do! is ***T bad."

I can't think of many reasons to ever leave this room.

Centaur II playfield is exactly the same as the original Centaur, they used the different cab because they had heaps left over from an unpopular title that sold less than expected.

The sheet says "Punks Not Dead" with a big anarchy symbol, left over from our daughters fancy dress teenage party years ago.

I would never dis the Do!

I thought I would wait a bit to see if anything is posted by DaLar at TG. Not yet and I agree it would be great if he provided some feedback after a great and close win at TG. I am guessing language could be a problem yet his gaming is awesome.

I also wanted to thank all of you in this MGL for the great communication and posts made throughout the whole tournament. I always thought there was so much talent, enthusiasm and intelligence out there that one day everyone would show it in their posts, so that is awesome. And again, without each one of you there would not be an exciting and engaging competition. You are the magic here! ... and the games of course!

Get ready for MGLXXXIII ... promo is up this Saturday! Then it will be hell breaking loose on the following Friday.

Fantastic!

Big thanks to OOO as always. Congrats to the winners, and thank you participants. I can't express enough how much I enjoy participating in the MGL. It's always interesting to see what games are picked and of course the reactions. Great competition, the banter is always helpful and obviously enjoy the humor. And of course, thanks to Mr. Do, even though you weren't in this tourney I still want to thank you. Thank you to littlebigredbird for sharing your wonderful drawings of magrinder and barra.:)

Already coming up with nominees for the next. Cheers, and see you then.
