What pins have been coming thru the Dedshed

Recommended Posts

Attacking the top flipper assy.

These are always neglected. Why buy a 2nd Flipper kit when you can buy 1.

Strip and clean off all the gunk.

Polish with Autosol

Straighten bend stop bkt

Install new bush

Install new flipper pawl

(plunger/link Ok)

Cut off bad spring ends and renew

Change to correct Coil stop.

Clean bat and install

That’s one done.

And Thing Flip is done.

As I installed it, I noticed a small crack in the bush under double magnification.

So need to order more. Am out of stock.

Lower flipper assy’s done and installed. Just need new bump stop rubbers, correct coils and EOS.

Flipper bat cleaning is a must to get rid off the rubber residue.

Don’t forget the trough metal polish, especially the rough, filthy ball gate.

Last of the stuff from the old playfield.

Posts, mini posts, inlane rails and outlane post hardware.

That’s all for fitting to the top now.

Next up is reflow all the lamp board solder and pins. Noticed some cracked ones but re do them regardless.

Firstly the 2 already installed, then time to clean, install the harness, and finish remaining boards before fitting.

Edy your work is so meticulous, it's wonderful.

And @Turbo27 will be pleased, the bumper caps are now in their correct positions! Yoohoo!

Yes, best time to do it is when completely pulled down.

Need to put together a parts order this week.

Cleaning the harness will be fun.

But will look and play like, or better, than new.

Will ring you on the weekend.

Ugh.

This.

Dumped roughly in place.

Picked through, untangled and re run a few bits, roughly lined up where everything goes.

Now to pick through and install bit by bit.

Yup.

Everything has a tiny location dimple. And I mean tiny.

Well that makes it a bit easier. While most wire saddle were perfectly located, some I found were in totally unsuitable locations on some machines. One machine comes to mind where the harness ran less than 10mm from the playfield prop hole location. Needless to say on this machine someone put the prop straight through the harness. I always found a lack of saddles holding the flipper wiring harness and the trough on most machines as well.

In my opinion it is great that there’s new playfield out on the market...

Unfortunately but there is a lot to do with them with holes in the wrong place and holes that are just missing..

They are just being pumped out for the quick money grab...

I am not derailing eddy thread...

Just pointing out that there is more work to a playfield swap...

Than what people think...

Back to what pins are coming thru the Dedshed.....

All good.

If I see something that’s not quite right or that can be run better, then I’ll re run or change as I see fit.

Holes are a guide only. I just use them as an orientation only.

Anyway, here’s clean vs unclean. Now to repeat a gajillion times.

Decided that the shed is too cold, so have moved indoors to the air con. My bed is a table.

@Autosteve

So time to line up and clean lamp boards as I go.

Remove all the screws and legs and lamps. Line up the inserts.

See how far out the pre drill dimples are.

So you can’t rely on them. They are just a guide.

Also my new manual, I don’t need glasses.

Do you re flow the Lamp insert area as well?

Yes.

The first pic shows the dot impression. Reflow that to smooth it out.

Yep TV for the hard to read stuff is a must. I put circuit diagrams up on the TV so I can read them across the room. One thing I just realized though, I take no notes on what screws go where preferring to just use a depth gauge in a hole and look at the part it needs to hold and that tells me what screw goes in however that won't work when the holes haven't been used yet on a new playfield.

Still, after a while you get to know what screws are used where.

Addams is looking mighty fine though. Better than factory because it is being completely hand built with so much attention to detail.

Talking wire saddles, I have been looking for cable ties that are common on Taito machines along with normal wire saddles. A normal cable tie but they have a screw mount attached so you can fasten them like a saddle with a screw. They are on EBay but much to my surprise, Bunnings now stock them. Don't get me wrong, I love wire saddles because you can reuse them but there are those times you only want to hold one or two wires and tight enough so the wires won't slide in the saddle. Maybe not for the pinball purist but these things are ideal for holding the wires when only a few wires and not a large loom is needed to be held firmly in place like around the ball trough and flippers....

Yeah I’ve used them on stuff before.

Technically you could use them on old games, but with the newer games, there just isn’t the real estate to attach being as there are so many things being used.

I use extra of the small ties where I see fit to make things neater.

Anyway, continuing as normal. Just more GI, lamps and switches attached and wiring cleaned, re soldered.

Couple more decals to stand ups. Just 4 more red roses to go at Cousin It.
