MGL 31 - RULES - read page 1 (Nominations are CLOSED)

Recommended Posts

Hi Gamers,

Welcome to MGL31, the first CAG tournament of four in the first ever Classic Arcade Gaming World Championships. http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/86206-MGL-CAG-World-Championships-2017

[video=youtube_share;cM-PJn1JQa8]

Competition:

The gamer with the highest points in this tournament will be the MGL31 champion. There will be 9 games played over 9 weeks, released one week at a time, competing world wide on the most challenging classic arcade video games. Games are only open for 17 days each, so gamers must play their best in that time and post their scores before the game is closed. At the end of each MGL, points will be accumulated for each gamer toward the CAG World Championship 2017 Scoreboard. The maximum score possible is 3,700 points for winning all 37 games, and the highest score will be the undisputed CAG World Champion for 2017.

Prizes:

Every gamer that plays all of the games has the chance to win the mystery prize. So if there are 9 games and you play and submit for all 9, then if you are drawn from the pool of qualifiers, then you will win all of the prizes. Whether you finish in the top half or the lower half in the tournament, you have a chance to win. Prizes will be cash and/or CAG memorabilia. In MGL31, the mystery prize will be 250 AUD and 3 mystery prizes.

Point system:

The incremental point system will be used for each game. 1st place will earn 100 points, 2nd place 99 points, 3rd place 98 points and so on. All gamers will earn competition points for their scores. If there is a tie on the overall scoreboard, then a head to head game win count will be used to determine the final placings. For example, if two players tie for 18th place in the world, then whoever has scored higher per game on a head to head basis will earn 18th place and the other gamer will earn 19th place.

Games:

Games are nominated by the competitors and sent by PM to the Gamemaster. Games must be selected from 1976 to 1990 and no trackball or steering wheel games are to be nominated. The number of games that can be nominated by each competitor in MGL31 is 5. The games to be played in the competition will be randomly drawn from the pool of nominations. Only unique games will be in the pool, as there will be no duplications from nominations. The order of game play will be determined by the Gamemaster and each game will be released weekly for competition.

Please send in your nominations by PM to OOO by midnight Sydney time Thursday 9/3/17. The first two games will commence on Friday 10/3/17.

The following games are excluded from MGL31 and cannot be nominated. Wonder Boy, Mario Bros, Guzzler, Rygar, Scramble, Mr Do!, Jr Pac-man, Joust, Section Z and Qix.

Settings:

The game settings will be posted in each game thread and gamers must ensure they compete on these settings only. No continues are allowed when submitting a score and must be played from the beginning of the game. No pausing allowed. No auto fire allowed. No cheats allowed.

The WolfMAME version 0.106 is highly recommended, however any later version can be used. Only the version 0.106 ROM set will be posted for each game and the equivalent for other MAME versions can be used.

Games can be played at the arcade. You must ensure the arcade operator has the game at the MGL game settings for the submission to be valid.

Submissions:

Gamers are to post a screenshot/photo showing their score with initials in the game thread. Games are only open for 17 days and any score submissions made after the game is closed by the Gamemaster will not be accepted. Scores at aussiearcade.com will be combined with scores from twingalaxies.com to form the world championship scoreboard.

Gamers:

Professional and casual gamers can play all or just some of the games. Gamers do not need to nominate games to play, they can play any game during the tournament. Streaming games and posting/sharing tips is encouraged, as is friendly banter in the gaming community. Striving for PBs, learning and playing the best a gamer can … are all highly encouraged. As all members at AA are registered, there is no additional registration process for the championships.

Good gaming and good luck to all competitors.

Working on rebuilding my Mame cabinet using HyperSpin and RocketLauncher this weekend... I hope to have the kinks worked out within 2 weeks for the first game. If not, I hope the first game can be played from my ArcadeSD cabinet.

Games must be selected from 1976 to 1990 and no trackball or steering wheel games are to be nominated.

^does the above include all games with specialised controls? E.g. dual joystick, spinners, paperboy, games with more than 3 buttons etc

Cheers :)

So the Gamemaster drives a Suzuki?

Good pickup. At least someone watched the video carefully!

Did anyone find Where's Wally (and no I don't mean the driver :realmad:)

All gamers will not have specialised controls, so they should not be nominated.

As always, a well done video!

Unrelated, I bumped into this cabinet in the Chicago area that may be of some interest to a few. As far as I know, I've never heard of or played the game before. This -is not- a nomination, rather just something neat I bumped into. :)

Please tell me that Gyruss is one of the games you nominated :) Not that I will win if it is, but I'm half a chance at some decent points.

Fingers cross some of the games that do come up are at Netherwold at the same time as their March 24-26th event - that would be cool.

Another great vid from @OOO which mainly featured the hardest game ever produced - those DK guys who think that 1.2m requires skill know nothing - score 5m on BnJ then come talk to me :P

I always enjoyed Gyruss. I was very disappointed when I got a 60-1 at the sounds that made the game unplayable.

Bump and Jump is another great one - I'd like to see both of these on the ArcadeSD platform.

Half way to Uranus...

I really don't appreciate this post.

This friggin' song is gonna be stuck inside my head for the next couple of days now that you've mentioned it :realmad: It's taking me back to the time a long, long time ago that I smoked something "medicinal" that made me keep hearing "Achy Breaky Heart" for days and days.

Damn You @Flash IV

Posted before on AA - but I'll post it again here...

For it's time - early 1980's the Gyruss soundtrack was the best music I have ever heard on a video game. Thankfully Zanderzone pumped up the volume on the game at Netherworld, and someone fixed the music chip - but to fully appreciate it, you need no background music and no other noise - you just need this to be the one and only game turned on, no one in the venue all the lights turned off.

Every year of Head 2 Head I try to have some surprises and / or interactive stuff....over the years we have had some crazy fun that makes me smile thinking back over it :)

Anyway......what happens at the H2H usually stays.....but I have decided to take the unprecedented step of sharing this here.....please do NOT make this public.

I would like to remind everyone of a quote from @churgs during the last MGL.

Here's a challenge I will put out there. I think it only fair that if @bigredbird cannot top the leader board by the close of game 6 -MrDo! Then he really should hand over his MrDo! Avatar to the winner and he adopt the avatar of that said person. Especially since he designed the rather strange avatar to make his mate look foolish . Thoughts everyone ?

An overconfident churgs thought it would be great to use my profile pic when he defeated me on Mr. Do!

Unfortunately for him he came off second best in that contest.

I have great pleasure in presenting to you the profile pic I have chosen for him. churgs looks a lot like this character from the Austin Powers movies and he is most definitely Number 2 so I think this is suitable.

Please refer to him as Number 2 throughout this tournament.
