stuzza
While I was working on my Galaga lowboy over the break I figured I might as well use the time to update my very first cab I built back in the early 2000s!! This is the third life for this cab and you can see from the photos what a massive difference some custom art can make to a cab. This one runs a PC with my custom Mamewah setup with Mame and a bunch of classic consoles. Finally added an LED light strip for the marquee and proper cam lock for the front. The volume control I mounted on the top of the cab for easy access. Again I have to thank all the people who have helped out in some way with this: @Boots for the keyed locks, @kingsarcades for the mains wiring (which you will do when the plug arrives :) ) and monitor brackets, @MamePatrol for helping out with some of the NBA jam files I didn't have. Awesome how people on the forum can help each other out. Here's what the machine looked like back in 2003!! I added the extended control panel not knowing what the hell I was doing. At this time no one really knew what Mame was. LOL. Mmmmm... marble contact paper! It was all the rage back then! :) Want some art, no prob, just print out random characters on photo sticker paper and stick on your cab! :lol Luckily my art skills have improved a bit since then. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/DSC01001.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/pic8.jpg Years later I had a mate who was keen to look at arcade machines and he was handy with woodworking. We converted the cab to a nice cleaner black gloss with chrome trim: http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20161012_081108.jpg And now in its third life it has finally come alive! http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143201.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143224.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143246.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143301.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143316.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143331.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143340.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_143353.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_153030.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170113_104046.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/stuzza12/NBA%20Jam%20Lowboy/20170121_111814.jpg
redferatu
I like it, I like it a lot NBA jam had such distinguishable art didn't it. Even though it's not the same cab it screams early 90s to me. Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk

I mean look at the CP - the player one joystick ball top should be blue right, but it is red!!! OMG... Surprised you didn't point that one out when you were here trying to find any other tiny flaws! stuzza
I noticed but didn't want to be a dick Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk Thanks for your restraint! Yeah truth is the only reason is that the joysticks dont seem to fit the thread of any of the ball tops from zippys etc. They are the original sticks from when i built it back in 2003. Didnt want to spend the extra on new sticks and to be honest i love the responsiveness of these ones too much. Got them from @OzStick all those years ago. stuzza
Excellent art work, but NBA Jam must be 4 player for best results... :( Absolutely! But this was just a re-skin of an old tired cab. 2 player is still fun. :)

B.M.O.C.
What did you use as a bezel? Is it a sheet of MDF that you ran a 45 degree router bit around the cutout?
stuzza
What did you use as a bezel? Is it a sheet of MDF that you ran a 45 degree router bit around the cutout? Yes, just some 16mm mdf. I used a router bit with as deep a profile as I could for the angled inside edge close to the screen. It is a lot more than 45 degrees. Can't remember the bit exactly as it is a mates, but it was so wide it could only be used in the router when it was in a router table.
