2x Donkey Kong's

Stating the next projects in the line this weekend.

I've actually tested the boards already, one fully works, but the other had a issue that can be seen in the pics.

Donkey Kong !

Hey all,

Just want to let everyone know that I still having gotten any further with any of my Garage / Arcade plans due to a few reasons...

When I was first planning out my garage arcade, I had in mind about 20 machines total, I started buying and I've ended up with roughly 70+ machines :o

So over the next few months, I'm going to be listing a lot of my personal collection of Arcades and Pinballs...

This decision has is basically been made due to me never finishing something I have started, getting into something far too deep to the point that its well over my head.

I've just got far too much stuff going on that one person cannot handle, to the point where I cant enjoy this hobby, so right now I feel the best thing for me to do is, thin out the herd ! :cry

As much as I love all the machines and the mental pain of the thought of selling them off, well... they just have to go...

So over the next week, ill be making an inventory list of what I have, then trying to at least cut that list in half with what I want to sell first.

Maybe ill put the list up here of what machines ill be moving on, then slowly listing them in the for sale section.

In the end I'm hoping that I can get to the point where I'm down to the 20 (maybe a couple more :lol) machines that I originally planned on.....

Well the madness seems to keep on going... :lol

I just had another container arrive on Tuesday, at this stage I'm saying "this is the last time", but I think I've said that for the last 4 times :rolleyes

So the picture down below is the current state of one of my garages after filling it with what came in the last container.

I don't think ill be keeping much out of this lot as I just don't have the room for it, the only reason I bought most of this stuff was to get the container on the way and to be done with it.

So over the next few months, most of this lot will be going up for sale.

Well one thing's for certain, you're good at utilizing all the space in your garage.

Hopefully by the middle of the year I can do my part in helping you reduce stock.

You wouldn't have a Tron or a Dragon's lair hiding away for future sale.

I know, I know it's a long shot but a guy can dream can't he.

  • 6 months later...

Well its being 6 months since I last posted in this thread, I've since cleared most of what was in my front garage (see previous post).

This weekend I started working on the back garage and pulled this little gem out:

TW1.thumb.jpg.2bfe3425084790f005c620f9c0b88532.jpg

TW2.thumb.jpg.78b2485a4dd27b32c54fdaed7c8ae35c.jpg

So its an original dedicated Trivia Whiz cocktail !

Most Trivia Whiz machines out there are conversion kits, so it makes this one a little rare being that its a dedicated one.

Was playing it last night (with a few bourbons) and what a great little game, brings something different to the arcade room....

Sadly I wont have room for this in my line up, so it will be up for sale pretty soon :cry

Hey all,

Last couple of weeks or more I've been working on the below 2 machines, as you can see in the pics they're original Centuri GYRUSS machines :o

I've been wanting to get one up and running for so long, so when I finally got one out, I thought it would be best to get them both running at the same time.

They both needed work on the monitor chassis, new caps ect...

One of them had a dodgy power supply, it had all the voltages, but I think the amperage wasn't there for the 5 volts or something.

As soon a I installed a new power supply it fired up...

From memory one of the boards worked 100%, but the other had all sorts of issues...

I had to steal customs of a junk Time Pilot board and re-burn some roms.

So the board was working after that, but every time I power the machine it would add a credit, I'd use that credit, try to add another credit, but it wouldn't add another credit unless I restarted the machine...

I started looking into the coin pinout and traced it back to a couple of chips, pulled out the logic probe (just learning how to use one), the first one I pulled tested bad in the chip tester, replaced it and bam! fixed the issue :)

Below are pics of both machines, obviously I don't need or want 2 of them, so one will be going up for sale very soon....

The machine on the left didn't come with the perspex bezel, so I had to buy one, the only one I could find at the time was a fair bit darker then the original on the right.

Just means its hard to see the art behind, but in person it looks awesome!

20200724_215422.thumb.jpg.9ea13c5e5527a44e19eaecf273ac1934.jpg

Its pretty rare you see these in Australia, let alone 2 side by side....

I actually had 3 of them side by side at one point:

Hey all,

I think it was last year I regretfully sold off my original Nintendo Donkey Kong from my collection.

I didn't want to sell, but someone contacted me that was chasing one at a time where I needed funds to come in.

So yeah I had a weak moment and I've regretted it ever since ! :cry

Well last week I had a visit & delivery from one of SANTA's helpers !!! (Bill big ass van) :)

He dropped off an original Nintendo Donkey Kong that I purchased from a fellow AA member a few weeks back now.

So first of all I got to say a big Thank You to @RedneckV2 !! for making this machine available to buy...

As you can see in the pics below, it arrived safely and in one piece.

How I got onto this machine:

I received a phone call from another fellow AA member and said that a Donkey Kong just got posted for sale on AA.

At the time I was out in the garage (early in the evening), working on the 2 GYRUSS machines in the above post.

I just said oh yeah and didn't think much of it and continued to talk about something else...

Finished up in the garage a few hours later, came inside, logged into AA, had a browse around and seen the Donkey Kong for sale thread that I was told about.

Once I was looking at it with my own eyes, it started growing on me big time, so I sent a PM to the seller (RedneckV2) saying that I'd take it !

To be honest I was thinking that someone has most likely has got in before me anyway, but I thought I'd try my luck!

I received a PM back saying its yours !!

So I also have to thank the person that called me and tipped me off about the machine, you know who you are, so thank you sir ! :023:

The cab has arrived:

It all worked as described, but I noticed the Marquee light wasn't working in the add, so I wanted to sort that out first.

Took off the marquee and seen that there was no tube in there, I had a spare one here, put it in but it didn't fire up.

Replaced the starter and then it fired up :)

20200809_005420.thumb.jpg.80b5a8d62a435e786d4863c964a7cb55.jpg

I wanted to give it a good clean, as I wanted to bring it in the house for a while, so I don't add to the mess out in the garage just yet :lol

Its amazing what a magic eraser, some simple green and a bit of elbow grease can do !

The cab had a lot black marks from rubbing up against other cabs ect, I managed to get all those out and gave it a general clean.

Here is a one spot I worked on:

20200807_234137.thumb.jpg.ce9d3d97d76af44cee6abc30bef7e325.jpg

20200808_000739.thumb.jpg.5b6a8bed924da07debdd0143a5d940a2.jpg

Took the control panel off, gave that a good scrub, again with the magic eraser, I'm not sure what it had on it but it wasn't easy to clean off.

It was like it had either dirt or dust baked onto the plastic overlay...

Removed and gave the buttons a quick scrub:

Dirty-Buttons.thumb.jpg.cb1990a693b5c3ce3b2daf15e7e38b62.jpg

clean-Buttons.thumb.jpg.88e8d21c97ac1b74fd35b5aca0e9d899.jpg

Also took the time to take each bolt out on the control panel, that holds the plastic down and polish them up.

I didn't get a close up of the bolts, but in following picture you can see that they're very dull and a little rusty:

DK-CP.thumb.jpg.759f10e62ab87507251f767ac3ce0ef2.jpg

Anyway I cleaned it up the best I could, was pretty happy with the final result compared to what I started with:

DK-CP2.thumb.jpg.463c0227fd4e9f99652b9b59a4d0b5ad.jpg

When taking the control panel off I seen it had a non original speaker in it and it was a smaller then the original:

20200809_012248.jpg.8fe9d45f4b03eb3ae448eb2377ec2657.jpg

I did notice it sounded different to the last Donkey Kong I had.

Ended up pulling that one out as I found an old FORD PIONEER speaker laying around which was the perfect size and same as the original speaker:

20200809_012431.thumb.jpg.459b99751c963c6b63c0d951514b572d.jpg

Ill probably end up buying a proper replacement speaker when I do my next parts order from the USA, but for now I'm happy to have the FORD one in there

Gave the insides a vacuum, then a blast with the air compressor, then another vacuum.

Its come up a pretty decent:

Inside-before.thumb.jpg.aa2c4d8133d541241b0745069acd5b0d.jpg

Inside-after.thumb.jpg.348f8f88ec1d8ad85a4bcdfde2ca2780.jpg

Last thing I've done so far is taken the T-moulding mostly off one side and re applied it.

As you can see in the picture below it had popped up in a couple of corners near the control panel:

T-mould1.thumb.jpg.7aaccb22bc736e4fdfdff290a9feb86e.jpg

T-mould2.thumb.jpg.11c72ecf3f251f06d35858be17cd89a8.jpg

I still need to attend to the coin door to give it a general clean and sort a better credit button out.

Here is what it looks like so far:

DK-3.thumb.jpg.ad415a0ee63e6617b864292ba68604e3.jpg

DK-1.thumb.jpg.75ec2729706c9f32367081bbb4b674ca.jpg

So overall I couldn't be happier how this has cleaned up, stocked actually !!

Now its time for me to try get good at Donkey Kong !!

Before I finish this post, I want to get this off my chest.

When I purchased this machine, I started hearing little whispers around the traps....

No idea how much or if any truth is behind this, but I do believe my source.

What I heard was that there were some people that weren't happy that this machine was leaving QLD and coming to me here in VIC.

When I first heard this and I must be honest here, I felt a little bad.... for about 10 seconds ! :lol

I thought to myself: "Hang on !.... how many machines have I sent to up to QLD !!, I've lost count ! "

Not only QLD, but all around frigging Australia !

I buy one back and I hear sooking in the background ! :062:

If any of this is true, then all I've got to say is grow up to those people !

It was listed for probably 3 hours before I seen it, so I guess you snooze, you loose.... :bum:

Today I pulled out another couple of machines from the never never....

First one is Taito Special Criminal Investigation.

It needs a fair bit of cleaning up, it needs a new marquee and control panel art, though I might be able to save the original, but ill look into that when its time.

When I first opened this machine I was quite surprised !

It had a second board laying on the bottom of the cabinet... Bonus !!

I have no idea if the boards work or not, when I powered it on, the monitor didn't come on, so this will be the first thing I need to sort out...

Hopefully with a little luck one of the two board will work and if I'm really lucky, then they might both work!

Knowing my luck, neither of them will work :lol

My plan is to have a crack at getting it all running, but unfortunately I have no room for this one...

So this one will be going up for sale (soon) if its working or not.

20200815_170204.thumb.jpg.5d08a8d029ebc4527d7694cd205f36f6.jpg

The other machine is a Nintendo Mario Bros wide body ! :o

I was thinking that Donkey Kong needed a friend beside it in the house, so I decided that the Mario Bros was the perfect fit :)

Mario Bros all works already, but does need a good clean before in comes in the house!

Ill be rebuilding the control panel with a new control panel overlay and new buttons.

I also have new T-moulding to go on and lastly ill be pulling the monitor and going though that, as the picture is a little ordinary.

Hey all,

So you've all seen the pictures of my insanity in previous posts of machines in my garages stacked to the ceiling :lol

Well.... I've recently made the decision to cut my collection in half ! :o

I have about 40 machines to move on which includes: Arcades, Pinballs, Jukeboxes & even Entertainer Gumball machines.

This decision has nothing to do with the recent announcement of the recession, its purely to try get some sanity back.

To be honest, I haven't had much interest in this hobby since things got way out of control and the love for the hobby has been some what lost...

I think to regain the love back, I need to move a lot of stuff on & this way others can enjoy some of the gems more then I have.

I'm sure for me the regret will set in at some point.... but it needs to happen !!

Starting tonight & over the next few weeks, you will probably see me listing machines.

Some of them wont make it on here as I'm sure some will be sold privately from word of mouth...

I may post in here to log my progress along the way, so watch this space ! ( and the for sale section ;) )

Cheers !

Had some free time today (Saturday), so started working on Pac-Man :)

Great machine this one, its never missed a beat since I've owned it... (touch wood!)

For an original Pac-Man, this one is pretty clean compared to others I've seen and the thing I've found is, they're hard to get hold off :unsure

They don't seem to be on the USA market as often as say a Ms Pac-Man...

I think the reason for this is a that they're a lot more collectable, as everyone likes to go for that perfect Pac-Man score !

I'm a hopeless Pac-Man player, so I already know I've never even come close to a perfect score :lol

I would like to get a kill screen on Pac-Man one day though....

So hopefully tomorrow sometime, ill finish dusting it off, give it a vacuum and then it will probably put it up for grabs ! :o

Here's a peak of the beauty up and running:

How much did you sell the demolition man pinball machine for???? Been trying to find one for a while, this is the cheapest i've found so far - https://www.homeleisuredirect.com/pinball-machines/vintage-pinball-machines/demolition-man-pinball-machine.html

Have you still got it for sale or did you manage to get rid of it?

Over the last few weeks I've had quite a few more machines leave the garage, about 10 or so....

Most of them sold before I was able to advertise them just through word of mouth ect.

Pretty happy with how progress is going, but still have quite a way to go to get things where I want.

Also just to throw a spanner in the works, there's a very good chance that ill be moving house early in the New Year :unsure

I've planned out a garage nearly 3 times the size of what I have now (12m x 7m), so will be about 18m x 12m ! :o

The new garage will store all my hobbies and my two old cars.

Anyway there will be more about the in the coming months I guess, all I know is its going to be a lot of work ....

Last weekend I pulled out some odds & ends that also need to moved on, so I guess ill be working on these next :rolleyes

Atari - San Francisco Rush Extreme Racing

Jukeboxes

Entertainer Gumball machines

A heap of cocktails

And also some sort of robot head that I have no idea what its to, for or where it came from :lol

Anyone know anything about it ?
