KIWI PINCADE Part 10: NEW ZEALAND (2nd-5th March 2017)

Recommended Posts

Ok so accomodation and flights are all booked. I had to change a number of things as Fiona decided not to come along after all (again!). So I'm arriving on the same flight as those crazy guys @jagojp and @Audioenslaved

John and I will be staying at the Ascot Epsom Motel (1st class all the way...). I think us aussies will have to start discussing how we are getting around Auckland...

This year I will take a rental car all the week to be able to go everywhere.

I arrive in Auckland on monday, is there any guys arriving this day or all the crowd will only be there on thursday ??

I might take a trip to CHC and see the whales in Kaikura if there is not plenty of things to do in Auckland area from monday to thursday, I have really no idea how to have fun for those 3 days !

Hi Franck

Most people are arriving either Wednesday or Thursday. If you're thinking of going to see the whales in Kaikoura, then you could consider going to Queenstown or Pan Cake rocks. You could catch a direct flight from Auckland to Queenstown (lots to do there) and fly back from Christchurch. There's a really scenic train ride out of CHC:

Hi everyone

There's quite a few aussies arriving mid afternoon around 3pm on Thursday 2nd March. We'll be in full swing at the first venue starting at 1pm so we won't be able to pick you up. You can either hire a car or take the Skybus to the city where the second venue starts at 6pm.

https://www.skybus.co.nz/

Details & addresses will be sent to registered attendees a week or two before the event.

Thanks

Yee.

Thanks a lot Yee

There is a way to see whales and Dolphin from Auckland too.

The best way to visit all the gamerooms is to hire a car !

I will be first to arrive so I will be on time for the first spot !

Best flippin to all

Yes, at Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium you can swim with the sharks! https://www.kellytarltons.co.nz/experiences/ That's you, Franck!

There's also a lake with water so hot that it boils, you can't swim in it. It's called Frying Pan Lake: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frying_Pan_Lake About 3 hours drive from Auckland.

Thanks a lot yee, swimming with sharks... what a weird idea !! Do you really think that it is me ? or you want me to be eaten by sharks (as I have a lot of meat !) to win the pincades tournaments ??

There is a lot of things to do around Auckland, maybe find the secret beach house where the secret Twilight Zone stands (to beat 6 B score !) !!

If anyone have some ideas or time to share with me, tell me !

I'll be in town from that Tuesday morning (possibly even sooner if i can!), although may be doing a bit of work that day. Happy to help people with housecleaning, cooking and playtesting, etc if I can be useful!

Hi Esther, I'll have a working bee going to shine up my games early that week. I don't know when yet but if you've still got my cell number, just text me to see where I'm at please. It'll just be playfield wipes, glass cleaning etc. Thanks!

I'm in! I'll arrive Thursday morning, dead tired but ready to have some fun. Look forward to seeing everyone!

...please don't hold my Yankeeness against me. I'm actually running away!

Glad to have you aboard, Byron. Are you another American running away from Trump? I hope you catch some shut eye on the plane because you're gonna hit the ground running.

SKYBUS info: For those of you intending to catch the Skybus into town, the buses are painted WHITE. There are about five different coloured buses but the one that you want to catch is WHITE with Skybus written in red on the side. The bus stop is right against the terminal:

https://www.skybus.co.nz/find-a-stop#formAC

If you have crossed a road lined with taxis to a bus stop, you are at the wrong place. See the map in the link above. It departs every 10 minutes from 7am to 7pm.

The correct bus stop is directly outside door 2.

Go to the the last stop at 396 Queen St. From there it is a 4 minute walk or 350 metres to the second Pincade venue (addresses provided later).

Thank you Yee, to move from places need some organisation. Hire a car seems nice but you drive on the left with the cars with everything on the right... That s not me ! Or I can try !

I will be around Christchurch from monday to thursday morning or so (eventually I ll move from CHC to AKL on wednesday evening).

From airport to Auckland seems ok with the bus.

Taxis into town

There is the CHEAP taxi company which advertises on their car doors that it only costs something like $38 to town so if there's at least two of you, it's more comfortable and if there's 3 of you then it's cheaper as well. However it's only the Cheap Taxi company and you can select them even though they are not the first in line at the taxi rank. The other taxi companies will charge over $60 for sure.

The Cheap Taxi company only use those Toyota Prius cars so it might be cramp with 4 guys but it's up to you.

http://www.cheaptaxi.co.nz/

The other good thing is that you won't need to walk the 350 meters to the city venue.

Hi Franck

We should be able to transport you around the Auckland venues ok, I don't think you need to hire a car in Auckland unless you want to.

Cheers

Yee.

Looking for a country that will have me...

Yes Yee, I'm in dire straits. Please excuse my political rhetoric on this forum but it's terribly hard to stomach having the worst leader/administration in the history of the United States. A thin skinned, racist, sexist, rapist liar (all substantiated) that wants to only help the top 1% and isolate the U.S. from the rest of the world.

So yes, I'm looking for a four year vacation somewhere far away and I'm open to suggestions.

...on election night I was applying for a Canadian visa - but as I'm sure you're aware, the website crashed.

Ok Yee, I was totally wrong when I thought about hiring a car with right hand drive... too tricky.

I will arrrive on thursday 10 am at AKL airport, I just need to know where the first venue is to take the bus or share a taxi with CHC mates.... to arrive on time.

Thursday night is at Dave s place in Auckland and it will be good.

Hey bonjour Frank

I also land at 10.15am at AKL domestic airport, same day, but coming from Wellington. Not sure if there will be other Wellingtonians on the flight, but I'll be ready to share a cab with you to go to the first meet.

Looking into flights and car rental for myself and my wife Michelle.

Not 100% at this stage but we need a get-away and NZ could be what we are looking for.

Probably arrive Tuesday and return the following Tuesday.

Have wanted to head there over the past few years, but always been at the wrong time.

Will update soon.

Pingolf Saturday night

With the Auckland tournament on (probably) the Thursday night and the both World System 11 Champs & the Classics comp on Sunday, the organisers are looking at holding a Pingolf comp on Saturday night. We're looking at the logistics at the moment. It will be a bit of fun.

It's too late to make it an official IFPA tournament but we'll offer some prizes to keep people's interest. If the schedule allows, we may plan a practice session the day before.

Long time no see, it would be great if you and your wife can make it over. Keep us in the loop.

Cheers

Lanyards and sleeves have arrived!

Look what the courier just dropped off, yay!

Thanks to Coin Cascade our sponsor for funding these, much appreciated! Please support them when you can.

A closer look at these and the letters are wonky:

After a few beers, it won't really matter but I never asked for the wonkiness.

What do you guys think? Would you complain?

Here's last year's lanyard:

I think the wonky letters look cool actually. But yeah, if you didn't ask for them, it does seem strange them taking some artistic license as they see fit!

I am now going to work a lot harder in my new vocation to justify why I am missing this very special event :(.

Everyone has to sacrifice something sometime so I'm going to make sure this new vocation pays handsomely to offset not being there this year ;).

Guess I'll just look at the pics posted in middle March:(
