Oh my goodness... for the record, I -DID NOT- nominate this game.

I personally nominated games I wanted to work on and would not mind playing for a few weeks. We'll see if any of those pop(eye) up. It would be great if one was selected but OK if not selected too.

I used to play this on the Atari 2600, but have had a couple of games on MAME and it seems the Atari version was much easier.

IMO a near miss potential classic with innovative game play and graphics ruined by flawed controls and difficulty curve much like Kangaroo.

(To clarify the game is not like Kangaroo, it's flawed like Kangaroo)
Winter is here and I'm still riding more than gaming, my current goal = 100,000 meters elevation gain for the year - well ahead so far

I see it as a classic, innovative (for it's time) and it has a somewhat tough learning curve. I'm not sure what you mean by flawed controls. The controls seem pretty straight forward in this game (four way controller and one action button for punching). Unless of course, you're playing with an 8 way stick. You'll have lot's of trouble with an 8 way stick.

Yeah perhaps you are right, I have played it with an 8-way but usually have no problem playing 4way with 8way as it's what I am used to and I have no problem with games such as Pac-Man and DK. But then some games are exceptionally tough with 8way like Qix so popeye might be the same.

I bought a 4/8 way switcher here ages ago but have not used it much, I will give it a try for Popeye and see how I go.
