Atari 2600 pal Vader, No output signal [emoji17]

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I got an Atari 2600 Vader a while ago and I couldn't get it tuned in.

I forgot about it, but this weekend decided to have a look into what's going on.

I hooked it into my VCR and did an auto scan. Got nothing.

I did a manual scan just in case and still nothing, I cleaned contacts and the game and got nothing. [emoji30]

I opened it up, but I couldn't see anything that stood out at me (no cracked solder or dodgy caps)

I checked the voltage reg and it had 5v out

What else should I be checking? Is there a way to check the chips without replacements? Or would a bad chip still give an output of some kind? Or could it still be a capacitor even if they all appear to be fine?

I know it's not the VCR because I also tried my mega drive and famicom today through RF and they both worked.

Every where I read said it should still tune in even if something is wrong, just wouldn't have a picture/sound or both. But I get absolutely nothing.

Any help would be great [emoji5] thanks in advance

There's not really a lot to a 2600

CPU

RIOT

TIA

Usually its the the TIA that goes.

Your best bet is to buy another cheap 2600 and do a chip swap to find out which is the culprit.

I think they are already in sockets.

Thanks King, just gives me another reason to buy another console ;)

I was actually suprised at how much vacant space was in there when i opened it up.

I was sort of hoping it wouldnt be a chip, as a capacitor or reg is cheap and easy to swap. The chip you need another atari for. And they don't seem to be that cheap [emoji22]

Are the same chips in the Atari Jr?

That's the one we had when were kids, so wanted to get one of them.
