      LAI SEGA OutRun Restoration

Hi everyone! I picked up my Holy Grail of arcade memories last September in Melbourne from Retro Replay for $500au not working. I believe it was picked up on a road trip in NSW.
It came with 2 sets of PCBs and neither worked. I tried cleaning/reseating/ swapping top and bottom boards but still the same rolling grey screen. One would go into test mode. These have been sent for repair but so far no joy.
After spending a month playing with the boards I decided to move on to stripping down the cabinet

The cabinet it now totally empty of parts, wire harnesses etc.
This machine had a larger 27" working monitor in it and the screen bezel (Inner and Outer) had been removed and were long gone. It was hard work getting this monitor out. I sold the monitor for $30 and picked up a NOS WG 20".
I've spent a few months stripping down the control mech, making a required parts list and ordering what's required. I'm currently looking out for a OutRun steering wheel and control bezel if anyone has one.

It was in a pretty shocking state and had probably not been maintained in 30 years!
some serious wear to the parts.
....and damage. All cogs were cracked which is common to OutRun.
I picked up the parts below
Here's the before and after of the steering mech restore.
I've now started work on improving the cabinet where some of the laminate has been damaged.

Last week I had the artwork adjusted to suite the Australian machine and had it printed for free which was a bonus.

This is the power board below. Has anyone got an OutRun to share a picture of their power board. I'm not sure how much has been changed but I can see an old power block on the right.

It's a seller / party hire for arcades - The business is called Retro Replay (my error) they are on FB.

      Great work on the mechs.
      It doesn't hurt to ask.

      Looking great, outrun86.

Will you grease the gears? If so, what sort of grease do you plan to use?

Thank you. A pack of grease came with the gears that I picked up for eBay. I'm not sure on the type it is but is specific for these that I bought.

Wow looks very clean. What did you use to get rid of all the gunk apart from elbow grease

      Love the new art work.

I took the mech fully apart and Jet Washed it to start with. This got rid of less gunk than I'd hoped but took a layer off. The rest was done with a green kitchen scour pad and the autosol metal polish. It took a lot of time to do all metal parts.

Would love to know if any forum members have this machine. If you do I would love to see you post a picture in this thread. Thanks

It's awesome seeing the progress you are making!

I've got a Sega Turbo Outrun sit-down cab that I hope someday to restore. Not in top condition, but a fun game and a great looking cab altogether. It's not exactly the same as yours, but it's similar so I thought I would contribute.
      Pic for reference.

I should be able to post actual pics tomorrow. It's about time she got booted up anyway.
