scholefn
Hi Apologies if this is a dumb question, however I'm just playing with software at the moment, and I had some questions about GroovyArcade. I have an old AMD machine that I'm running the GroovyArcade LiveCD on. It's connected to a 15" LCD monitor via VGA. I'm quite confused about all the video settings, however I do plan to use a bigger LCD monitor when I do this for real. I'm not that interested in using Windows if I can get away with it. Currently the GA setup works fine and the splash screen is fine. I choose 'LCD' as my monitor type. When I launch the frontend, I get the screen split into 4 with 2 purple copies in the top two sections. Obviously something not right! I tried installing and running from the HD and then I got about 8 screens in the very top row! As if there was a grid of 64! Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I must admit the myriad of options around monitor etc. is confusing me. I've had a pretty good look over the GA forum on arcade controls but thought I might try here first. Maybe using Groovy Arcade to connect to an LCD monitor is overkill but I didn't have much luck with many other front ends, and installing Ubuntu 14 was too heavy for my old machine. Any pointers appreciated. I'm barely capable with Linux, but can do stuff if pointed right. Thanks Nick
Rat
Groovymame is for CRTs (I run it on my Astro cabs and it looks great) I think you would get a much better looking picture from your LCD using normal mame and HLSL http://www.videogameperfection.com/2014/07/27/hlsl-for-everyone/ As for frontends I use MaLa and find it fairly easy, but you could just use MAMEUI and not worry about a frontend http://mameui.info/
scholefn
Thanks for the quick reply. If I was to use normal MAME and Mala or MameUI I presume that's all on Windows not Linux?
Rat
Yeah I run all my EMUs on Windows 7 or XP, is there any particular reason you prefer to use Linux? I have no experience with Linux, but I assume Linux options for most things you want to do http://gmameui.sourceforge.net/ Windows would of course give you more options. scholefn
Not sure why - I think I want something I can tinker with! Also, I installed XP and it annoyed me! I might persist with Linux a bit more and see how I go. Thanks for the advice.

scholefn
I do have some experience, built a minecraft server and rebuilt PC as Linux desktop. Only playing around though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You could roll your own Linux Mame platform. This guide (Not quite finished - ie. IPAC config) might be useful. http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/62760-ZSystem-Dedicated-Arch-Linux-Mame-Cabinet-Index-Introduction I'm still running Mame 0.154 on my cabinet - When I update, I'll also update the guide to the new revision. Though you can certainly use a more up to date Mame if you prefer. Your on your own for patches though.
