I gave it a go for an hour or so, seems like a decent game. Could do with a difficulty adjustment though...

EDIT: Gee OOO, have you ever played an MGL round that you haven't won?

EDIT: Gee OOO, have you ever played an MGL round that you haven't won?

When I have time and I see a game I like, I normally play one of the games in the MGL.

Valtric is a great IMO game, good one Rat, good memories of this one in the arcade.

I am a huge fan of the complex shmups and some of the insane hard games to play like Gradius, R-Type Final, G-Darius etc.

The true MGL champions are enshrined in the tomb, I am not in there :) ... post #88 http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/13631-MGL-scoreboard/page9

Not that there are any rules against sandbagging, to post 2 really good scores for Valtric and Gyruss in the final minutes of a 2 week game is not really 'in the spirit of competition' in my opinion, personally I'd prefer to see progress scores through out the 2 weeks so people can see where everyone else is at, and you know, compete. Not that it really matters in the % scoring system as everyone is vying for ever last point. It's a good way to win, but I'm not sure it's the best way to 'have fun'.

I thought to not post such a high score so early as it may affect other people's motivation.

If the Gyruss score is posted at 1.78 million on the Sunday two weeks before the deadline, I was thinking better to post at the end.

But to keep you happy and 'to have fun' as you put it, I'll in future post within a day of the score.

Holy crap... time up (about 90 mins ago). Totally forgot it was a Sunday night now that I've sold my business and am an unemployed bum!

Congrats OOO - The post at the last minute, shoot'em up specialist! Wondering/hoping you'll post a score on Galaga. I'm adding you along with Rob who is already on my list, to the people who should stay the hell away from Bump 'n Jump.

Final scores for Valtric will be updated tomorrow (if I feel like it - need to go collect my Dole cheque, scratch my arse among other things tomorrow before I do MGL stuff) :)

It's a hard issue to keep everyone happy. I certainly see Kane's point of view, but by the same token you are right in saying that posting a massive score (F1 Points or % Points System) may make people lose the motivation - if however, you are 1000 points ahead in Gyruss and hold back your score, then that really is sandbagging and probably more frowned upon. I don't think you've done either here - you are clearly way in front of the 2nd place getter - it wasn't like you only just beat them and were holding back to see if they posted a higher score.

But I guess having said that, you could have also posted your scores for Gyruss & Valtric a week ago (if you had achieved them at that stage) and most likely still wouldn't have been beaten.

End of the day, MGL is 8 games over a period of 2 odd months - it's not a 2 or 3 day event like FunSpot, so it's a bit hard to be rough on anyone who posts a score on the final day of a game.

You seem to love certain games @OOO - I wish you had more time to play in MGL's, I think you sell yourself short on your chances of winning one of these :)

Galaga is a classic game, but I never had any interest to play this game, especially when everyone loved to use the fire cheat. It was a rage for everyone else BITD and a strong money spinner for the operators.

Sorry John, I don't enjoy Gyruss either, but yes I know I played it.

Andrew Laidlaw made it into the International Video Game Hall Of Fame by setting the world record on Galaga by overtaking Phil Day from Australia a few years ago.

I wonder if Barra can set a new WR and then he will be in the IVGHOF?

Re Bump n Jump, BITD I played in the arcades and it was called Burnin Rubber.

I checked my sparse notes from the early 80s tonight on this game.

I scored over 1 million on hard settings and stopped playing because I got the million, that was the mark to go for in those days, 1 million was a big deal.

More ... "Avoid cars for 50,000, 5 basic patterns, beware of 8,13,18,23,28 ..."

Free man "every 30,000, except over 1 million then zero" and "3 man start".

I would like to see John McNeill be the world champion on this game.

I won't be playing this game again since the 80s. This is YOUR game!

And I'd love to see many other Australians and NZers have a go at their game of choice for a great score or even a WR.

I'm not sure if I ever played a Bump 'n Jump in Australia - Burnin' Rubber was the original, but for some strange reason best known to TG, they went with Bump 'n Jump which is actually a clone of the original game.

Either way, I (or someone in AA) really needs to organize a massive Arcade meet - I need to meet you so that you can show me what the hell I'm doing wrong in Pengo :lol

Everyone at AA should meet at Woody's in Brisbane in a year or so when his house is finished. Shhh, don't tell Woody yet!

He has quite a few dedicated cabs. I am not sure if he has a 60 in 1 with Pengo in it, but I do know he has a dedicated Gyruss (one of John's favs), Galaxian, Galaga (many AAers fav), Dig Dug (Top 5 for Brad) and a very nice Mr Do. Rob should go too to show you how to play Burger Time!

I'm not playing Gyruss ever again until I see you play it :p Burger Time, well I'd never heard of this game until it came up in a MGL and the pattern play just ruins this game for me - personal opinion only, but I do appreciate the guys who can play it.

So we're all agreed then? We'll wait until Woody is all set up with his home arcade and then we'll crash in one Saturday night? :lol

Subject to any real life issues I'd seriously consider making the trip. Got to consider a few more things before leaving town for the time being but things are improving.

Meant to upload this earlier but it's taken until now to sync my phone with my current PC. I will stay away from BnJ for now but no long term promises. :lol

Funspot's machine has always had a seriously messed up high score table but is otherwise OK. That was the first game played after plugging the machine in. It backed on to the tournament row and was off due to a lack of power points. We unplugged R-Type so I could have a crack at BnJ. I think that was the only time I played it the whole time I was there. Just one game......

The way I read that score is you were on 951,152 when you completed a 50K pattern to roll the machine. Did you know that when you roll BnJ that you forfeit any extra lives that you might have got. So in this case, you didn't get bonus lives for crossing 960K or 990K? So that is two lives closer to cracking 2 Million. Nice score for your first game though, I really must plug my machine in and have a game shortly - need to make a nice big score, record it and then not tell anyone what it is so I can "Billy Mitchell" you if you ever beat me :)
