My Situation

ArcadeObsessed

Question

Hey guys, just wanted to my situation.

I have been trying to hook up my PlayStation 3 upto my jamma arcade cab for so long.

I have tried using a Jpac, with a little success, I needed to purchase a CVBS to VGA converter, which was ok but I needed external speakers, I wanted to use the speakers in the cab, and the image wasn't great.

I even bought a HDfury2 hDMi to vGA converter, no go

Lastly a package came in the mail today, which is a PS3 to Jamma timer board, I was really excited about this, but connected via VGA no go, then connected via CGA and no go aswell.

I configured the PS3 via another TV just to make my output was correct but no go.

Very disappointing.

I think my problem is that I have. Suzo happ 22 inch LCD Monitor, which is very fussy with the video signals it can output

It can only except resolutions of

640x480

600x800

1152x756

Not sure what the last resolution is

Any way after all that was said, I have come to the conclusion that this is never going to work.

So I am just going to enjoy the babystar 1940 with LCD which looks amazing mind you and fun with it.

Here's a pic of Jamma PS3 Timer Board

If you are only ever going to play the Games Family board then pull the monitor out and fit a normal 23" lcd for about $140..

If you ever really want to plug a normal game board in buy a RGB to VGA converter but how often would you ever bother with the xxxx in 1 in the cabinet.

Thanks guys for the quick response

Yeah there's heaps of great games, on the baby star board, mind you I wish I had Street Fighter III 2nD Impact, 3RD Strike and both killer instincts.

I can play all jamma boards as my LCD monitor has a CGA RGBS 10 pin connection which is great.

I suppose I am just having trouble with this monitor getting a pic due to the frequencies it can handle

But I am really interested on this scaler WireDoug that your talking about, do you have any pics

oops sorry here you go - some interesting ones. I realise some are backwards to what you want but all good to consider. While we work out the best way.

It seems ideally hdmi to VGA ( 800x600) for the screen .. maybe we can write edid to the fury . not sure. HDCP is part of the problem here.

How far from Port Melbourne are you? happy to spend some time on it free if you bring it in.

Really can you do something to the HD fury 2, wow that would be great

That dam thing was so expensive

And it can only go as low as 480i out of the box is that true ?

I really appreciate your help with this mate

Port Melbourne is not a problem to get to.

Hey WireDoug,

I called the distributer last night and I thought I would share the specs for this LCD monitor before I come down, cause I have realized it is quite a hike from we're I live.

So hopefully you can make sense of this.

Before we start when you said bring the bits, I can only bring the HDFury2 and its contents, did you mean bring everything i.e. PS3, LCD monitor the lot,

Or is it as simple as programming the EDID in the HDFury2?

The LCD is meticulously bolted into the cab which took quite a long time, and it will be way to difficult to remove for myself, so sorry about that.

If its only the HDFury2 you need then maybe I can come across, I would certainly have to check with you if that will suffice.

Having said all that I truly really appreciate your help on this

Here are the specs of the monitor.

Suzo Happ Pro Vision 22 Inch 16:9 LCD Monitor

Inputs:

VGA (DB15) 1 Volt peak to peak

RGBS 10pin (CGA)

H & V Sync needs to be above 4 Volt Max 5.25 (Or no image will display)

Back image

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/25/puvy3amu.jpg

Native Resolution: 1280x1024 (SXGA)

Resolution Range:

320x200 (CGA)

640x480 (VGA)

800x600 (SVGA)

1024x768 (XGA)

1280x1024 (SXGA)

This monitor is NOT HDCP compliant

This monitor cannot even reach resolutions of 480i, which is lowest resolution the PlayStation 3 outputs

That resolution is way too high for this monitor.

PS3 Output Resolutions

D5: 1080p / 720p / 1080i / 480p / 480i

D4: 1080i / 720p / 480p / 480i

D3: 1080i / 480p / 480i

D2: 480p / 480i

D1: 480i

After spending $700.00 delivered from Chicago for this monitor last year, I won't be replacing it, it will have to stay in the cab and I will have to settle with 1940 games on my babystar which is still amazing.

Cheers
