Cocktail Project

Recommended Posts

Just a status update on this project.

It is coming along nicely.

I picked up the 15" monitor from gumtree and sat it in the cab, looks great with shroud and with it positioned correctly you can't see the monitor casing. So happy with that.

The J-pac worked fine without being plugged in to harness, I just snipped the cables leading to the harness and re-wired them to the j-pac. The harness remains and if I want to put it back to Pengo wiring it will be simple as the cables are color coded and easy to re-join.

Sorted the monitor rotation issues I was having with the 15" monitor. A quick install and rotation of the desktop along with some mame tweaking and it is working full screen vertical.

Still to do:

Replace existing buttons with new ones as the current ones are RS.

I need to work out the shifted button thing with the j-pac as I will need it for this one so I can exit from games. Either that or discreetly wire in another exit button somewhere out of the way. Or use one of the existing buttons on the other side of the cab.

Also need to look at joystick to try to make it 8 way for games that need it like Raiden etc. And probably replace Joystick totally anyway as this one is buggered.

Need to add speakers to the cab.

Not much else. As far as being playable right now, it is. Just finishing touches now. Oh and I need new glass.

  • 2 weeks later...

Spent some more time on the cab last night.

Decided I didn't want to drill any holes so wired a button on the player 2 side to the J-pac and set it up as esc. Works well. Plus being over that side means Wyatt won't exit me from a game unexpectedly.

Player two start button is the credit button.

Not going to be using the player 2 side of this one. Due to location and kids playing etc, just going to be 1 side playing.

Brought it inside today and set it up, Rochelle straight away started playing. I put lady bug on for her and told her it's like playing hide and seek.

Still want to change the joystick and buttons, get new glass and some pacman how to play inserts to go with the control panel.

I have not permanently mounted the monitor as it sits nicely and I can remove it if need be for moving. Also leaves it as is in case I convert it back or sell it. Still have the Pengo board.

All in all very happy. Thanks to Dice275o for the cab.

Some inside pics.

Motherboard in the bottom on PCB feet. J-pac off to the right. Power supply mounted on ledge to the left with HDD mounted on metal brackets drilled to the side of the cab. Speakers sitting at the speakers grills and mouse just in case for adjustments.

And one more with monitor in place.

That is one of the best things about owning pins and arcades. Watching the kids enjoying these games like we used to.

Had a party tonight, Cohen turned 6. This was pretty much the scene around the cocktail all night.

Replaced the joystick and buttons on it tonight. No more dodgy joystick and squeaky buttons.

All smooth now, though I bought a long shaft joystick thinking it would need it but no, now it just looks like it has an extra long joystick.
