Anyone a UFC fan here?

Recommended Posts

Lets talk about UFC116, or any previous UFC match or fighter.

YouTube just can't cut it anymore with links to these fights - most of them are just promos or lame-assed 'reviews' or video game matches. If you're after a link to the latest UFC116 (last weekend) movie (3 hours worth), I've got a rippa for you, so hit me with a PM for the FREE stream (not an advertisement - this is just a real free link I'm willing to share privately - I'm not affiliated).

Brock Lesnar? He's the real deal my friends! :)

I am more of a stand up fan (Karate, Boxing, etc) but still love to watch UFC.

116 was a pretty good PPV - good to see George Sotiropoulos (From Geelong) get up and the great battle between Sexiyama and Leben.

Highlight was Lesnar Carwin - definitely proved Brock is a champion - he really got a beat down in the first.

Most of all it was good to see how humble he was after winning - his brush with death has certainly pulled his head in and he's won alot of fans with his improved attitude.

Went and saw it in Sydney, was fucking incredible.

Man that would have rocked. Just watching it on TV you could feel how much the crowd loved it.

Huge UFC fan. I was doing Muay Thai when UFC 1 got announced, and had heaps of mates already doing Brazilian JuJitsu (one good friend of mine had just come back from a three-month Gracie training camp in Brazil and was very excited). It was great to see someone come out and do this mish-mash of fighting styles in one tournament.

It's great to see what it's evolved to these days. My old Muay Thai instructor now runs an MMA training camp in the valley. I wish I had the time to get back into it. Great fun.

And Brock Lesnar is a scary mofo. I'd shit myself if I saw that guy charging me down in the ring! :o

And I hate Frank Mir. That guy is an arsehole. No respect at all. Just out to break people's limbs and be a smug git.

My missus is a Forrest Griffin fan. Watched a great fight of his last night.

A-hah - knew there would be a few of you hiding in here! ;)

I am, long time fan.

have a huge collection starting from UFC 01

Went and saw it in Sydney, was fucking incredible. Also going to the CCF in sydney in Augest.

Jealous!! I'm only a new fan, and missed the Sydney gig. They'll be back in 2011 and I'm guessing it'll be Melbourne this time. Saving like crazy for a ticket.. :o

Yeah, George was fantastic - love his blow-by-blow re-cap of his own fight in the ring with Joe Rogan!! :lol

Huge Forrest fan myself - really respect him from his earliest days in the UF house and would love to see him here in Oz next year. Perhaps he could fight Stephan Bonnar again?!?!? :D

yeah elvis, is was literally the best show i have ever been to. better than any rock concert etc the spectical they put on and the atmosphere was something I will never forget.

The issue with them wanting to do the next show in Melb is that apparently cage fighting is illegal there. I can't really see that changing either

It's been illegal in so many places, and the UFC (the Business) talks louder than most.

It's just a matter of time - if not 2011, perhaps 2012. But the whole world is waking up to the fact that the old UFC is not the new UFC - and that boxing is no longer king of the ring.

Crossing fingers - but Sydney will do just fine. :D

No doubt. The wife wanted to go, but we couldn't organise accommodation nor babysitters in time. Lets hope they bring more of this to AU!

I didn't realise that law existed there! Oh well, hopefully they bring one of these to sleep Queensland! :)

the really memorable thing was the time alot of the guys took to sign autographs and chat

I got a photo with Sugar Rashad Evans, had a chat to Joe Rogan. Fucking awesome man, just top blokes who really love their fans.

The line from near the ring to chat to Bruce Buffer and Dana was like 50m back and they near got through everyone.

Mike Goldburg was funny as hell irl as well

I have only been into UFC in the last 12 months since it has been on 1. I cant afford all the pay per views etc but I love the thursday night fights

Did anyone ever watch Bushido in the late 90's? I used to love that, great fighting and a precursor to UFC with Dan Severn and heaps of other great fighters

Are you talking about Pride FC? They merged with UFC a little while back.

Folks like Rampage Jackson are all ex-pride. My only gripe is a lot of the huge Japanese fighters don't seem to be heavily involved in UFC, which is a shame. There's some brilliant fighters out that way.

UFC seems to be quiet heavily American (north and south). There's a smattering of international fighters (a few UK guys showing up now), but I'd love for them to extend out to other continents and really get the range of fighters and styles increased.

Heaps of Japanese guys still do K-1, but that's only striking (still great to watch though).

It's all good now that it's all more professional and there are fighters starting to come through who have grown up wanting to be in the ufc but wasn't it great in the early days when you had to fight three times in a night and face people like Tank Abbott and Cabbage :D.

Yeah, me too Mango. Been interested for 6 or 8 months and have been slowly working my way through them all from UFC 1. There is a lot of ground work in the early UFCs, but there is a real progression to a more striking orientated fight as more fighters become specialised in the MMA style. Love a good bit of biffo.

No I dont think it was pride, it was definately called Bushido on the show

Off the top of my head the rules were

It was in a boxing ring

to win the bout you had to either get your opponent to tap out or get to 15(?) points 1st

If a fighter grabbed the ring ropes his opponent would be awarded 3 points and the fightrs would be stood up. This led to people being dragged to the middle of the ring in a leg lock as they fought to try an drag themselves to the ring ropes while in alot of pain :) pretty awesome to watch

Some other moves like a chest to back body slam was 2 points.

I dont think there was any punches allowed (palm strikes were ok) and no kicks above hips (i think)

I would say that it was on pay tv in townsville about 98/99?

At the time there was nothing like it and it was awesome especially with some of the japanese ring announcers. They also used to have some great tag bouts between Russia and the US.

It probably wouldnt compare to UFC these days but back then it was great

Big time fight fan here :) UFC , MMA , Muay Thai , Kick Boxing , Boxing , I can never see enough , been to more live fights than I can remember and some not so legal ones that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up !!

UFC116 great card , cant believe Brock survived that first round ! plenty of other fights would have been stopped.

Probably the most amazing fighters I have ever seen in all codes , Nathan Corbett * carnage * and Mike Zambidis .

Best match up ever nathan corbett vs tyrone spong , can't wait for a rematch.

me and sando are ufc nuts. i get my ppv from a private torrent site approx 30 mins after they finish, so im happy with that. while lesnar had been the scariest asshole i had hust about ever seen,he was just an asshole still but i was impressed with his humbleness if thats the right word after the fight. what a beating yet he came back... champion!

i have most ppv from this and last year on the media drive so when the games room is up and running i can watch them on the 120" projector screen yay!
