Best post apocolyptic movie

Love these movies as well (and novels) ties in nicely with my other favourite genre of scientist stuffs up and creates something that kills him. Will try not to spam the thread too much but...

On the Beach (the 50's version) low key B&W where 50's Australia was the place to be.

The Quiet Earth Odd New Zealand entry, with a guy waking up and finding himself the last man alive. Worth it for the ending alone.

Where have all the people gone? A while back I remembered seeing a movie on TV as a kid where a group of people come out of a cave to find everyone gone, turned into piles of dust. No idea why I remember this movie 30 years later (70's movie I saw in the 80's) but it stuck with me and I eventually worked out it was Where have all the people gone? Also no idea how badly it'll hold up now but found a copy just haven't got around to watching it yet.

I hope I don't ruin the ending for anyone but Planet of the Apes counts as well :D.

Yes I saw Book Of Eli.......dissapointing =(

I am Legend was great imo. Beat the pants of the Original with Vincent Price and was also better than the Charlton Heston version from the 70's although I did enjoy that.

The original is now freely available:

The Stand wasn't bad for a mini series (probably more so if you read the book). Don't know if there's many readers here but the original book I am Legend by Richard Matheson is excellent and I don't think any of the movies have yet gone with his original ending.

There's also some good ones like The Matrix and Dark City where you don't know the apcolypse has happened until the end.

I watched The Quiet Earth the other night, funny thing halfway through an old friend rocked up so paused it then he was talking away about his life for about an hour, then stopped talking.

So I put the movie back on, quickly explained the plot so far and proceeded ( he didn't :lol) , I really liked the movie, liked the ending and we are talking 86 here:cool:

That new movie 2012 was cool, over the top but thought provoking just the same.

Trav that movie was just plain silly.:lol but a very guilty pleasure...all roland emerich films are...he is the modern day irwin allen...2 new independece days sequels are his next project if rumors are true.

John Cussack jumping that limo over falling sections of road in la...roflmao...priceless.

Woody Harrelson stoner/conspiracy dude..too funny.

Mayan callender has a few theroies behind it.

Armageddon

Water World

I liked water world. Mad Max on water..sorta...poet and I didn't know it:laugh:

Costners idea was great but very ambitious....damn hard to shoot on water through for the duration of your film, lots of things can and will go wrong...drove the budget up through the roof when they ran into frequent storms and sinking sets.

It would have made money if these things didn't happen and the script was workshopped some more but that's film-making, the studio was howling for it's release and wanted it out pronto. This film doesn't deserve the bagging it gets. I would like to see this remade at some stage and not completely with cgi, with a director bold enough as costner to tackle the elements head on.
