WTB Bartop (possibly custom made)

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Im hopeless at building stuff. So ill cut to the chase.

I want to buy a Bartop (portable..kinda lol)

To suit a 19 or 20 inch LCD for a Mame Setup

I don't know how to program the joystick and buttons so i want to buy a X-Arcade 2p joystick..unless someone can help me out with it. (Cutting holes, connecting buttons to iPac etc etc)

I'm a newb at all this. I just want a MAME cabinet that will be solidly made lol

Any help would greatly appreciated. Cheers guys,

Daniel

Aye, Troy's your man for the cabinet. I'm sure he's providing you with all the info you need so I won't go into that too much.

Re controls, X-Arcade stuff is expensive & I've yet to hear anything good about them to be honest. Additionally, it's not that hard to put something together yourself, we'll all help if need be :), and you'll end up spending less and having a better quality product.

Some things you need to consider:

  • The layout of your control panel.

  • What are you wishing to predominantly play? Fighting games like SF2 or old school classics like Donkey Kong & Pacman etc?

  • How many buttons do you want per player?

  • What type of joysticks and buttons are you after? Ball top joysticks, bat joysticks, Japanese, Australian, convex buttons, flat buttons etc.

I'd recommend a simple two player, 6 buttons per player setup. This way you're covered for all games. Add a player 1 and player 2 start button and a couple of illuminated credit buttons and you're set.

Check out the commercial section in these forums for some good arcade suppliers.

To get you started I'd recommend looking at something like this:

That's a fantastic price & contains everything you need to get started on a control panel.

Then there's the PC side of things, speakers, a monitor, software & front ends and lots of other stuff to consider but one thing at a time.

Welcome to Aussie Arcade. :)

P.s. click on any image for more info on that product.

i am definitely going to get Troy to do that cabinet. I've sent him a few PM detailing the extra features i require, but he is definitely the man for the job! Very happy with the support here in this forum :)

Frank_fjs:-

Thanks for all the info. I will do all my shopping from amusements.

Im going to go for a standard setup like you mentioned but with Sanwa sticks and Japenese buttons via an IPAC encoder!
