First time i've ever watched an AFL match in my life - i know almost nothing about the game, but was knackered after a few days driving back from holidays so sat down with nothing else to do. A couple of thoughts:

Fitness of Afl players is waaay more than NRL

Flow of AFL is pretty ordinary (i expected a bit more given it being a grand final), NRL is also a heck of a lot more physical

Crowd/atmosphere was awesome

The game itself was great to watch in the last quarter

The biggest impression i got though was a felt the losing captain's (no idea who he is) speech was pretty ordinary and unsportsmanlike. I reckon it would be lucky if it went for more than 15 seconds.

Compare that to the NRL final last night - i was barracking for Melbourne, but Roosters well and truly deserved the win - Cameron Smith was a true professional and showed a lot of class in his losing speech.
