Monster Bash Playfield Restoration - Thugs R Us

Recommended Posts

OK, Due to Rob's ability to post pics  I'll be kind enough and do the posting and some of the process for him.

Rob asked me to fix his playfield up and give it a good clear coat. Also to strip the top of the playfield and a fair bit underneath to do the job...

Ok, the boring bits I won't go too much into and that's the strip down.

One thing that is apparant is, it's very dirty and hiding some nasty areas that need to be touched up....

http://jdy5ia.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p8F2gyjL0VBT-yqZ6JJTG09g_hVnWWAN0EpOXGovqQWyuFwvl1d2L8mjjlr6IzX1Hwcpb_3NKgeYXtyhNlKtDzzRi3f3wWOLV/MB%20Strip%20Down%20(31)%20(Large).JPG

This shows a good overall condition, lots of areas to sort out..

Almost everything removed that can be from the top, now to work underneath to get the remainder stuff off..

Underneath the playfield is pretty clean..

Now a closer inspection of the work to be done.....

It seems anywhere under the mylar wasn't adhering to the playfield itself, I was luck the damage was only this as you could see they whole screen printing was pulling up, and that was under all areas of the mylar, I must say I've encountered this issue before....

Drac Track, out-hole and vertical wear / damage to also fix here...

More issues from the mylar.. It was lucky this area wasn't worse, the area same size of the mylar had actually lifted up:blink:

Come up pretty good, I think.

I had to get creative and make some custom decals \ overlays. Once corrected I printed this on Sticker adhesive paper.... The above two pics are not of the actual playfield but the image I scanned pre-fixing / clearing, retraced inked, and printed. I then had to cut these out and apply on the playfield.

And the result.... (it looks pink in the photo, but real life it's a nice red)

http://jdy5ia.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p4sqCYfzR5IlaoPX2KcGZs4w0hcECEQ255IfMuW_UCdgFbKHdZWXpsxc4H77R7-n-4mqPhyrDAPEW23IEevLHthAJI9uQ67en/MB%20Repair%20(21)%20(Large).JPG

This was a bugger to fix due to the transitions and the specks. I was going to hand brush touch it, as most if not all the areas to fix are hidden by pop bumpers and other playfield parts, but I wasn't happy with the result so also air-brushed this area...

End result, forgot to mention also had to touch up Dr Frankenstein's monster, it too had wear around his belt area...

Now to let it cure for a week, give it a rub down, see if it's sands down flat, if so will cut and buff it, if not another clear coat...

This is actually the 2nd lot of clear coat...straight of the gun..

Thanks for the kind words guys!...

Have had to re-clear coat it, Wasn't happy with getting it smooth after the sanding, so only option is to sand most of what I can flat and hit with another clear coat..

Still not sure when you say differnt style, but if talking colour it was matched to how it was, definately wasn't as white as that one in the pic, other than that not really much difference in shape!...

You must be too picky, do a before and after...

Then again you may be talking about another area? I'm guess you're refering to the outhole near the drac-trak?

Sorry should have posted a link.

This is what the hole should look like.

http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=4441&picno=9808&zoom=1

thats why i wondered why you went with another style.

sorry maybe i'm to picky. :)

But nice job all the same.

witch hole are you talking about?

might pay to put up a pic of yours

so we know what you are talking about

Hello

Yes the out hole located near the drac track.

looks to be a differant shape ( you have more of a longer angle at the top left of the hole ) Looks like it in the pic anyway. :unsure

Also on the original playfield, there is purple between the red arrow and fist and between the hole. As seen in the ipdb link before.

As i said before, i'm toooooo picky. :redface

sorry, guessed i should have said nothing. :)

I can see what your saying, however that's comparing to a new PF. The hole is slightly different because it was obviously worn and has been fixed up. Which Scott has done a pretty good job of.

If I was going to be that picky i would go for a new PF. I am extremely picky and but can say 100% i would be happy with this MB PF. Clear coat looks sweet as they come!

Thanks Ryan. If you are (previous poster) that picky than you would pay through the nose to have it done or a new playfield, even repros have issues.

Moving on...

All finished, I've happy with the result. Please note no plastics were replaced just cleaned up.

Bloody hell Scott! This might be even nicer than the work you did on MM (if that is possible). I can tell you from experience playing on one of Scott's PF's this sucker will be like lightning. SUPER FAST!
