viper001
So outta the guys that have been, what designers or other pinball people have you met? Anyone got any good stories to share? I would love to go, maybe next year :unsure 2 years ago I found Steve Kordek walking in from the parking lot and kind of lost so I stepped over and asked him if I could help him find his way. Steve is litterally in his 90's and is the designer that is credited with being the first guy to put just 2 flippers on a pinball machine at the bottom in the location that everyone has come to expect them today, and he couldn't be a nicer guy to boot. He was still working at WMS when they shut it down. I can't say I'm "buddies" with any designers per say, but just spending a few minutes walking with him I felt like I was escorting pinball royalty around. Pat Lawlor is usually at Expo, and Steve Ritchie and George Gomez have been at a few that I have attended as well. You never know who will be there from year to year but there are usually enough "celebrities" to make it interesting. :)
Lloyd Olson
Anybody can be hit or miss, having a good day or not. Steve Ritchie is one of the finest people you'll ever meet. Orin Day is a blast. Last year on the Friday I stumbled across Python at the bar, he had his own supply of sausage and jerky he was sharing, he had a few drinks and was a blast. Keep your eyes open, and if the time is right say hi. If you see someone you consider famous, and they are having dinner with their wife and kids, that is their time, find them on the floor so to speak to have a better shot at meeting them. And don't just go for the famous, big names. I think each and everyone coming through the door is famous and I'd like to meet them all. You'd be amazed at how nice a lot of the people are, and how many new friends you'll have. That is way more fun than glad handing someone you'll never see again. Enjoy each and every person you see. I hope to be roaming around on the Friday, run me down, I'd like to meet you and if I have any LTG mugged me mugs left, give you one. And last but not least is Mike Pacak, besides running things, he has tables there of really neat stuff and usually hauls in rare machines to be enjoyed. He's been in pinball forever, ran an arcade chain, knows all the industry folks, and been running Expo for over 20 years, he has lots of neat stories. LTG :)
