Bally SS Coil Switching

Question
Autosteve
Been looking at this one for a while and thought I would ask in case I am missing something.
Bally SS coils are switched to ground via a TIP 120 transistor to turn the coil on. The grounds on a Bally SS are all common including the coils as seen here....
Any reason why I can't make these LEDs flash with the coils used in the bumpers as drawn in like in this diagram?.
The twin diodes with circles around them at the bottom represent the leds I wish to flash. The diode in line between the LEDs and the bumper coil are to prevent any spike coming back through the LEDs and into the switched illumination supply.
Will need to put a resistor between the +6.5 switched illumination supply and the LEDs as they only need 3.3vDC that I left out.
I figure the LEDs should flash when the ground path is connected when the coil transistor is switched on to drive the bumper coil.
Have I missed anything?.
