Gottlieb Play Pool - 1972 Italian AAB

Recommended Posts

We're getting to old doing it tough or at least I am. Bought a couple of these at different sizes two years ago and repaired a heap of cabinets with them since which I think have paid for themselves more than a couple of times since. I used to use a strap but these sash clamps make life so much easier.

HINT : Put a bit of thin ply / plastic spacer / something , between the clamp ends & the cab so you dont damage seen surfaces

thanks dave..had sanded back to timber further where the rail sits.. bit hard to see but the clamps are just under where the side rails will be.

plan to get a set off mr. jeff

here is what I was looking at tonight. the 1948 mint original gottlieb cinderella just as a dumping ground.

not to forget the 1940s merchandiser as an operating table.

this is what most collector's gamesroom look like most of the time.

this stage always seems like you aren't getting anywhere. cab all strengthend. may glue and clamp one more edge.

this step have found from experience is one that should take time.

as like nearly all wedgehead projects the timber face on the head is chipped. this one is luckily one of the better ones.

this is round 2, will go one more time and them sand and prime.

Considering the age of that wood, it looks like it was quality wood they used in the first place.

it's a gottlieb

anyways after a week of prep, fixing mistakes, filling small nick's etc all the base white is on.

so over the past 2 or so weeks have stripped and done a heap of work on the cab.

will give another light sand tomorrow morning and apply 2 more light coats.

look to sunday for black splatter.

where all the bumps are the holes for the door, rails, coin entry plate etc

  • 3 weeks later...

been on holidays and really haven't done that much on this game cosmetically.

though installed new side rails courtesy of @RAIL-WAYS as always top notch product. also new flipper buttons, bushes and switches.

have rebuilt the chimes and installed.

finished the cab, have applied the black splatter.

moved onto the 2 drop target banks today. completely pulled them apart. have new springs (both sets), drop targets and drop target mylar protectors from pinball rescue.

soaking the unit in a vinegar bath for 24 hours and will pull out tomorrow and finish cleaning and will rebuild.

will do one assembly at a time

okay, now after a soak of all the metal parts for 24 have now cleaned all and dried.

now to put back the jigsaw again.

have the other bank as a reference which makes things easier.

think the original drop targets had seen better days ;)

I just started on a Meteor drop target bank when I read this. No rust on the mech so was hand polishing with Autosol without good results. So I gave them a vinegar bath tonight and it came up great with alot less work and no need for polish. Cheers

back at work so things have slowed down.

finished all 28 switch stacks, just need to resoldier a few wires.

not in a hurry to rebuild drop target units again.

have also installed the new pop bumper body, ring, skirt and spring. have added a small strip of timber and some wood glue to all the hopes on the upper playfield to strengthen.
