DK Jamma adapter

Kaizen

Question

I'm building some Donkey Kong replica cabs with another forum member later this year and need a number of DK-Jamma adapters for some original PCBs and my DK Repro boards when they're done.

The Mikes Arcade adapters are good but it gets quite expensive when you need 10 of them so I set about making them myself. The first revision uses the same circuit for the video inversion and audio amp but the power rails have been beefed up and a ground plane added top and bottom.

The boards are currently in production and should arrive early next week.

Once tested, I plan to add a connector for direct feed for the guys that want to stream their games.

This will include a sync cleaner and most likely a Scart connector or RCA connectors for RGBS out.

The PCBs cost $7 (or $11 for gold finger edge connector) and the cost of components is around $12 plus a 44 pin edge connector.

The project will be open source if anyone wants to get their own boards fabricated but will have some spare if someone wants an unpopulated PCB.

PCB has been assembled and tested, everything works as it should.

The board I was testing with has a graphics glitch at the top of the ladder but the adapter video works perfectly.

I want to add a few features to the adapter PCB such as the ability to add credits by using buttons on the control panel, a sync cleaner and RCA connectors for streaming output.

I'll be using the Martin Jones Sync Pulse Generator circuit and had to work out a way of adding credits.

This is what I come up with...

NexlHYf.jpg

There's two unused gates on the 74LS86 on the Sync Pulse Generator circuit and I've added a 74LS02 to the board.

Credits are added by holding down Jump and pressing P1 once or P2 twice (in theory :unsure).

If it works, there's no reason why it can't be used on any board that has an unused service input or coin input, some changes would be needed to use with an active coin input.

Can someone confirm if this circuit will work or is there a better way of doing it?

Video below shows a logic simulation of the circuit working.

New PCB design completed, extra features include RGBS and audio outputs via RCA connectors for streaming, Sync Pulse Generator and credits using Jump and Start buttons.

Do you still have any of the unpopulated PCB's left as I need to get two PCB's? Who do you use to fabricate the boards?

I've just built and tested the one with RCA outputs and it needs debugging.

There's an issue with the Sync Cleaner circuit and somehow I got the RCA connector pinout arse about, once I get the the Sync Cleaner issue sorted you're welcome to have two boards for the cost of postage but you'll need to swap the signal and ground over on the RCA cables for streaming.

I've been using JLCPCB to do the board fabrication.

I meant to specify that I was referring to the Rev. 1 board as I don't need streaming output.

Sorry mate, they've been tested on the first run and all good, yeah I should have two spare.

Will test one first tomorrow and confirm there's no issue with this run.

If all good then I'll shoot you a PM.

Do you have the MC33074 IC's?

I have 10 on order and hopefully will see the first lot of 5 early next week.

I might have MC33074 IC's, but will need to check. If not then I will source some online. :)

The first revision of the streamimg adapter has been built and tested, the audio out needed tweaking, line out is now a 3.5mm jack and I've changed the output to Scart to make it connect to the OSSC via male-male Scart connector.

Hi!

I've tested to order the rev 1 board from JLCPCB and got them within a week. Splendid! The MC33074 were ordered from Aliexpress and after two months they arrived. The boards work great, and I must say that their design and the fact that you made it freely available are awesome!

One thing though, they could benefit from having a connection for the service button also, in that case you are able to access the Test menu in DK3, Mario bros and Popeye. I soldered a thin wire to the board to accomplish this.

Cheers from Sweden,
