Bally harlem globetrotters - power issue

Recommended Posts

I working on my harlem globetrotters pin and noticed I dont have GI lights and all the voltages are way off at all the test points on the recitifier board. Checked all the fuses - they are all good (including F6). But F6 is showing a very low voltage too. I have 240v at the power switch under the machine and also at E2 on the recitifier board. So Im a little unsure as to why Im not getting the correct voltage at F6 - any ideas?

I tested it on AC.

F6 is the AC input fuse.. if its not right the machine is stone dead. you have the other test point voltages so you measured it wrong

if your only issue is no gi its probably the track that runs on the parts side of the board to J1 ( 1 &2) .. rough work desoldering old pins rips the via out

Is the harlem a new addition? or a game you've had for awhile??

The reason I ask is the weak point in all the old Bally's is the rectifier board and all and any hacks that have been done over the last 30 years.

If its a recent addition, do yourself a favour and get a new board from @Tangles or GPE in the states.

agreed - I recon it is stone dead at this point. TP1,TP2,TP3, TP5 are DC and TP4 AC - all bad readings.

yes - was think about getting a new rectifier board but wanted to sure

its THE INPUT. unplug it from the wall.. if the readings change f6 is fine

you can unplug the game and measure the resistance from J2-6 to J2-7 if you like .. should be about 4ohms from memory.

unless its been munged the board is quite repairable

So if you pull fuse F6 what voltage do you get between F6(E1) and E2?

Should be 240V

Has the machine previously been run in Aus?

E1 - 166 vAC

E2 - 244 vAC

No I mean between F6(E1) and E2, so one prob on E1 and one on E2

What were you measuring back to and was F6 removed?

I believe so from what I was told from the previous owner

Yeah so no reliable witnesses then

with F6 fuse out between E2 and E1 is approx 17 vAC

with F6 fuse in between E2 and E1 is approx 243 vAC

The guy did say it did play it before it stop working years ago.

Ok so pull all the fuses and check the AC input points on the rectifier board.

E2-E4, E5-E6 etc.

I'd say the bridges are toast, the GI is normally the first to go.

Bally harlem globetrotters - power issue

Have had weird power readings when the ground wire braid was broken.

Also, have had broken wires at back of the rectifier board from the transformer.

Plus, GI can’t blow its bridge rectifier.
