Replacing a Rear Projection CRT Screen

Looks like a damaged Perspex diffuser. You would be best to get one from a wreck of the same size or a larger one and cut it to size.

The screen is called a perspex diffuser? I was very excited learning this but still can't find anything online.

 

Can it be from any Rear Projection CRT? I assume it can't be from the LCD ones.

There'd be a more technical name for it but yes. It's only there to enhance the picture.

I'd say yes, they all seem to do the same job. If you run your fingernail from left to right on the Perspex screen it'll feel corrugated vertically.

Perspex diffuser? Is that the same thing as the Fresnel Lens? That's the corrugated sheet to help spread the light? I know jack-all about RP sets though, so i wouldn't trust myself to be right. Was it @Berty who was messing around with one of these recently?

 

EDIT: totally awesome choice of game though. One day i need the ability to pay Radiant Silvergun, but MAME just seems to chew on it and get massive slowdown.

I reckon you're right on the technical name for it. And yes it spreads the light. It also makes it harder to see the image on certain angles I've found.

I have a big working Panasonic RP TV i'm wanting to sell if you interested. The projection screen on mine has a RGB matrix like on a Colour TV tube.

It's a Panasonic model TX51GF85H I think that means it's a 51" or 1295mm Diagonal.
