Someone changed my mobile provider

Recommended Posts

Can't believe it. I'm sitting down watching TV and noticed my phone looses reception. Get on Amaysim account and it's gone. Can log in but my numbers not active. Call my number and it's ringing but my phone isn't ringing. Now number is off and sounds like telstra message not optus/amaysim.

Seen a few customers with the same issue, this identity theft is for usually unauthorized transfer for ransom or account hacking. Last couple were used to clone customers phone and hack into customers email & setup to conduct bank transfers via Netbank or other online banking (verification codes for transfers are sent to hackers email / phone clone). This means they have usually guessed or hacked your email or icloud password. Everytime you change the password or attempt a recovery the email goes to a recovery email setup by them as the recovery address. You have to reset all your account passwords manually as in 'over the phone' (and not use online verification). It's a pain in the ass as alot of accounts are now linked. Don't forget to advise your bank of suspected account compromise. Sounds like you need more complex or varied passwords?

Contact the new telco for a reversal as you are covered by the telecommunications code.

I'd also be lodging a formal complaint with a number, keeping track of all calls, times, dates, length of interactions, names and operator IDs of the people I talk to about the issue, and then going to the TIO (Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman) when I'm not happy with how it turns out.

This is a common trick too- Your phone rings and you answer, the voice says "Mr Red deer" & you say "YES" then they hang up. They have your voice recorded saying "YES" then they stitch you up with a new telco, power company or NBN reseller. Bastards..

That sounds like a far stretch. That could be anyone's voice from any call. Has there been any confirmed cases?

EDIT: I'll go get my tin foil hat!

Ok so about 3 years ago I lost my wallet on a trip to lakes entrance. I stopped once in Moe. Apparently the offender's who the cops have caught are from Melbourne city. Also apparently mine and a heap of other id's were recovered from the apartment.
