Wait for a secondhand Arlec to come up, all the cheap ones are pure shit, but the Arlec ones are rock solid.

You can usually pick them up for $50-$80 secondhand.

Plus 1 for the Arlec, I've had mine for over 20 years, pull it out to de-magnetise some pinballs & it's still working.

I've been waiting for one of those Arlec ones for two years (pretty much since I started the Arcade CRT obsession).

I've had to resort to the cheap crap ones which has done the job - I've gone through two already though - the button has melted on me

I had a cheapie one until I got my Arlec. One day I was degaussing a screen, there was a bright flash and the power cable where it connected to the degauss wand had burnt through and fallen off.

    Good times.

Hahah yep! It's always like russian roulette whenever I use those wands, after 6 or so presses, it starts getting really hot - I've got two that I rotate around, once both are hot, I don't do anything for a number of hours... I try really hard not to use them, I hate them!

I know exactly what you mean so I insulated mine with a sleeve of heat shrink then built up a thick layer of silicone rubber around the cable where it enters the wand, this way you eliminate the movement of the flex where it enters the wand. They are cheap in build quality but with this mod it reduces the risk of a dead short
