Handicapped Scoring Comp Ideas...

Recommended Posts

I run a social comp with mates about once a month and the range of skills in the group is very wide and have come up with a format which seems to work well.

We generally play 'Best Game' or 'Group Match Play' formats using 5 or 6 games. To encourage the beginners and to put pressure the better players we use a handicap system where the better players get a Handicap % which is then applied to any score they get during the competition.

Player A ==> 50%

Player B ==> 50%

Player C ==> 50%

Player D ==> 30%

Player E ==> 30%

Player F ==> 0%

Player G ==> 0%

Player H ==> 0%

For example if Player B (50% Discount) Scores 100mln on BSD he would loose to a score of 60mln by player F (0% Discount).

After each competition I review the gross scores to be used in the following months comp, if a new player joins we will collectively agree on a handicap for them.

This is obviously never going to work for IFPA registered events but thought it would be an interesting idea for a larger social comp where we could use IFPA ranking to bucket players into say 6 buckets with handicap % setup something like the ones below :

Anyway just interested in other thoughts on this....

One of the issues of doing this is the scoring can be complex and need a good spreadsheet to do it well... to make this easier I have added the idea to the team at Match Play Live software.

For anyone you thinks it is a good idea it would be good to get a Vote on the proposal on Match Play Live site (use the link above and simply click on 'Vote' button). If the idea gets more votes it means the ideas float to the top of the list and at least get looked at by the dev team.

Thanks
