WTB: System 11/B MPU Board

Recommended Posts

It was repaired by someone local prior to me getting the pin, but the manner in which it was repaired makes it difficult to problem solve. Was merely weighing up potential cost of repairs vs replacement.

100% would prefer to keep it original with the original board... but a well known board repairer wold prefer not to touch it given it’s previous repairs.

He loves that spray on stuff. Get a pair of really sharp probes is the only way.

Or an old set of probes. Put a needle beside the metal probe and heatshrink it tight to the old probe leaving just the needle tip exposed. Now your probes have needle points and needles don't slip off IC legs either.

I love it!!! Super ultra needle probes [emoji869]

You can take the idea further like clamping the needles to the probes using automotive wire lugs. You cut off the exposed metal on the lug just leaving the barrel part the wire goes into. Put this over the needle and probe and clamp. Heatshrink over the top. These last for months done like this where as just heatshrink will break or loosen over time.

The needle probes are also prefect for probing through cables for finding breaks inside the insulation. Because the hole is just a pin prick in the insulation, no need to repair after testing. Where as normally you would clamp to an exposed wire, you can push the needle tip right through the wire and it will stay there like it would using clamps. When done testing just pull the needle tip back out of the wire.

If you suspect a wire connector is high resistance, you can push a needle probe in the wires each side of a connector and set your meter to amps. Turn the circuit on and if the meter shows any amps, you know the connector has resistance and should be changed.
