Administrators Arcade King Posted July 17, 2019 Administrators Share Posted July 17, 2019 I bought this from Ebay several months ago with the intention to spruce up my sad looking C64c :(. (Motherboard not included) However I decided that a white keyboard would look crap in a black case :078: I had bought 3 faulty breadbin 64's off an AA member a few years back and between the 3 I made a nice one however the other 2 had missing parts, cracked cases missing keys etc. I still didn't want to gut my C64c so first step was to get one of the spare motherboards working. This motherboard was pretty good. Replaced the missing U31 Clock generator chip (Pulled to fix another board), replaced missing power socket (pulled to replace square one on +4) and 1 missing fuse. I also put a heat sink on the VicII chip. Plugged the test cartridge in and she passed! Cart and U31 can be bought from @GameDude. Unfortunately I had to buy a brown keyboard from ebay as both of my spares are missing keys one only missing the spacebar (if anybody has a spare PLEASE let me know). Turned out cheaper to buy a whole keyboard than just one key..postage is a killer. Last thing I needed was the keyboard mount, I ended up getting that from https://shop.pixelwizard.eu/en/ All they keyboards are the same in the C64's however the breadbins are screwed to the top of the case and the C64c's are mounted to the bottom with brackets. I think you'll agree it was worth going the extra mile for the brown keyboard. It's also nice how you can use the old fat motherboards in these cases. I'm motivated to fix the last mobo and find a case for it and a new case for my poor old beige bomber C64c

Frank_fjs
What are you doing with the old (original) case? :)
Administrators Arcade King Posted July 17, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted July 17, 2019 The original breadbin cases were cracked and in bad shape so they were binned. All that was left was the motherboards and keyboards with missing keys :(
Frank_fjs
Ahh I see now, you utilised a breadbin on account of the keyboard colour. I saw the picture of the C64C case, which I see now you didn't use in the transplant, and thought that the case from it may be spare.
R64
Mate I have a literal box full of C64 keys of all styles. I’ll have a dig and see what I can find...
