That would work well if the tube was 5ft long.

 

This is the ballast that Amd supply for stern machines or did supply about 5 years ago. It worked just fine.

But if you know better then lets hear it.

Fluro's wattage is usually dependent on it's length.

Eg a 2 foot is 18watts, a 4 ft is 36watts, a 5 foot is 58 watts.

The pins have a standard 2foot 18W tube.

The ballast should be matched to the wattage of the tube.

The manual calls for a 13watt ballast, not sure if that's a typo as all the ballasts I've seen in sterns are 18w ballast.

All though it's quite common to see 13 watt ballasts in 18watt fittings.

You can also bridge out the ballast(or take it out all together) and put a 2foot led tube in there.

You must replace the starter with a fuse link(that comes with the tube) as well.

It also comes with stickers to let service people know it has been converted to led.

 

At work I try to keep the original fluro's working and try to stay clear of leds because if I changed everything to led, my job becomes redundant.
