Recommended Posts

Greetings All,

Would you like to get away from the freezing winters all of southern Australia....well,

@AlexMc @jason_giant89 and myself invite you all the the 2019 North QLD Tropical Winter Pinball Carnival. We are 99.9% confident we can lock in 18-21st July.

Below is the schedule for the events as submitted to IFPA calendar:

All comps below will be IFPA approved.

See IFPA calendar for more details on the below events.

There will be a $20 entry fee for each of the comps below which will go toward trophies and other costs for the event.

Thursday 18th July from 6:30pm - Fair Strikes (7 strikes) tourney at Empire Alternacade - Flinders St Townsville City.

https://www.facebook.com/empirealternacade

Friday 19th July from 12pm - 6pm: West End Wizards Pin-Golf Tournament (9 holes with a finals component) at Alex's place - West End, Townsville.

Friday 19th July at approximately 6pm - 11pm: West End Wizards Pinball Open (Group Matchplay 5 rounds with finals component) at Alex's place.

Saturday 20th July from 9am - 4pm: Alligator Creek Pinball Open (Group Matchplay 4 rounds with finals component) at Rob's place - Alligator Creek, 20 mins south of Townsville.

Saturday 20th July from 1pm to 6pm: West End Wizards 4 Strike (Best-of-1 Matches, 4 player groups with 3rd & 4th place receive strike) at Alex's place.

Saturday 20th July from 6pm - 11pm - West End Wizards Flip Frenzy (3 hours of non stop head to head with a finals component) at Alex's place.

Sun 21st possible wind down comp at Alex's - depends on demand. Previously people have been keen to fly home, however if you are keen for a Sunday morning comp, let Alex know.

That's probably all the info at the moment, like previous years, its a pretty hectic couple of days, so we will try and plan as much as we can well beforehand. But in summary, its a great few days of pinball, socialising and great winter weather - a wide range of machines at the 3 venues from 70s to current.

Apparently Jetstar do have some sale fares at the moment if people want to take advantage of these.

Hey all. Has anyone booked tickets or made arrangements for this weekend? There is a slight possibility of a date change to the weekend before in July. We can make it work as is, but if no one has any issues it may change.

We will make a decision in the next couple of days so let me know ASAP

Rats first time we will miss this one. We fly out to the USA for Pinburgh the weekend after and the wife wouldn’t be smiling if we popped up to Townsville the weekend prior.

Have a great time as usual - and don’t break any bones !

ATM I'm a possibility for this.

Heavily reliant though on the Poms knocking off both the Afghani's and the Sri Lankan's, Aussie's taking care of the Bangie's, and India dusting off Afghanistan.

Unfortunately it's also reliant on Jetstar not jacking their prices before 23rd June.

My head tells me to add Federer to dump Millman in Halle to the Multi, however I reckon Rog may have the yips after the 2018 US Open Millman unforced error fest, and My Heart would feel more than a bit slimy backing against an Aussie for my own benefit.

Has there been any interest shown in the Sun comp mentioned in the first post? I'm currently looking at the Sun 8.10PM flight down to MEL (possibly the Tue 8.10 if Alex's offer of a machine to rest my weary head under still stands).

Cheers,

G

Hey Greg. At this stage I think most of it will be done and dusted by Sat night, although @AlexMc might do a Sunday event? With 5 or so comps from Thursday night, it's going to be pretty taxing on the organisers.

Pinburgh, Why go and get tickets that sell out in like 3 seconds, to an event half way around the globe that takes like a week on Qantas with like a thousand average pinball players and a few Stern employees on Games who think they can play and win this overrated overly crowded pinny comp in a city full of cops and parking meters when you can fly up here to Tropical North Queensland on Jet Star or Virgin sitting down and getting pampered by lovely ladies at your beck and call (well, in first class anyways) for a few hours and arrive to a place where the sun shines all day, where you can find non paid parking and put your favourite shorts and pinball themed t and drink endless ales in the sun and meet and greet some of the best pinball players in Australia (no Stern employees that we know of) in three great venues and maybe even win up here in Tropical North Queensland (like, our Winter is over but really the best time up here) and it would look good on your pinball CV! And a beautiful trophy. Just Ask yourself, wouldn’t you be happier? Play pinball, Bring the wife and enjoy magnetic island for a few days, play pinball, meet some lovely people and take a nice trophy home. Life is good.

2019 North QLD Tropical Winter Pinball Carnival 18-21st July

And, to the rest of you living the dream down south, why hang in the freezing cold, where the only holiday you take is when you get the cold or flu, go to work on crowded trains and shitty toll roads, doing a shitty job not involving any pinball, do yourself a favour and break the cycle, book the flights and come up here, play pinball maybe win a trophy and get a tan...at least this winter! You owe it to yourself, think pinball...be pinball.

To append my last post,

You might have heard there was some flooding recently in Townsville, what beat-up, in fact, it was a hot summer and was simply a local pool being topped up when the owner got into an ugly game on a TWD pro, taking several...hours of play, and water overflowing down the street! The mainstream media can really blow these things out of proportion not having more newsworthy stories to tell the southerners other than traffic jams and train delays, and it was a very very deep swimming pool, cause we like to swim too and like e'm big and deep up here.

Importantly the TWD was set to Hard setting, a simple mistake?....well actually no mistake, that's how we play up here, only on the hard setting, and could have been even longer and the water deeper, if it wasnt for that hard setting, could have been worse if it was set...like the southerners, to the 'easy' setting and getting into the Prison Yard Multiball rinse and repeat.

For those who have old flames and girlfriends, the rumor is, she's into pinball big time, and she's going to be at the Townsville Winter Carnival comp!

and...ex Wives are never allowed.

Think Pinball....BE Pinball.

She was last seen at the uni... Help me find her...
