Good news about ColorDMD and GST

Recommended Posts

Just bought a new LED colour dmd, the exchange rate was a killer but what can you do. Luckily the colour DMD people must have cottoned on to the problem of us in Australia being stung with GST. The invoice and paper work they enclosed had no $ values and it was delivered to the door with signature required. Hey presto 'no GST' :) it was still expensive but it could have been even more expensive. I am so happy with the display it looks fantastic. :D

you can buy a 4k 65" tv for that :D

Funny you should mention that … I just bought 'she who must be obeyed' a 65" incher for her birthday, hopefully it should keep her occupied and off my case for a while :p

Aren’t we only charged when it hits over 1k?

I’ve never ever had a GST add on issue with colour dmds.

Bought 4 in total (separately) over the past 6 months.

yes, no , kind of.

below 1k the obligation rests with the shipper of the goods and over a certain limit its enforced ( probably 70k / yr).

colordmd as a 'regular shipper' and a credible company would change and pay it.

Aunty Penelope on the other hand would not be chased for it when she sent you a birthday present.

You can be charged (or not charged) at any price

Same goes for import duties.

Sometimes it just involves luck or the militant customs guy on lunch break when your parcel goes through :lol

I know evil bay is adding 10% on everything.

If it’s over 1k you have to pay more taxes again.

Government is double dipping.

Amazon don’t seem to charge a further 10% yet.?

You shouldn’t have to.

Flee bay is using an Australian ABN to pay the GST on ur behalf.

It doesn’t go to the seller.

So if customs call to collect you just need to tell them who paid the GST

Or, get yourself a U.S. address, pay bugger all US domestic shipping and you can ship from there. most places let you have free storage for 90 days if you want to buy from various joints and then consolidate the package.

Any recommendations on US address and freight forwarding services?

I use comGateway.com, but like everything, do your own research just so your 100%.

I use them because the fees are reasonable, they are located in Portland OR which has no sales tax.

The best use of these are when you are buying a few things, and quite a few US retailers and ebayers offer free domestic shipping.

So you store a few items and then ship in bulk. They mainly use Fedex or DHL.

They will also buy on your behalf too.

And the final price is left for you to enter!!!

Anyway, works for me as I buy a lot on eBay and so many sellers there have given up on sending to OZ.

Let us know how you go?

Mick
