Dragon's Lair Cinematronics

Recommended Posts

Now this is finished, so here are the pics of the great Dragon's Lair US Cinematronics version.

After "only" 34 years from my last play on it, under panoramic wheel in Luneur (a big amusement park famous in Rome in years 80-90).

Monitor has been fixed and rejuvenate ;)

Now it's 100 times better

Monitor is an original Electrohome G07 CB0 with NTSC board

Inside there's a Dexter board with DL trilogy, coupled with Merlin DX, for an easy "on the fly" swap between the trilogy (dl, dl2, space ace)

Wonderful couple....

Great game, really a wonderful piece of history.

I'm really happy that it's now with me

Nice - Using Dexter & Merlin I see,

Did you get a Laserdisc player and original DL/SA Laserdisc's?

- - - Updated - - -

Some interesting news on the Laserdisc front.

Original cabinets often use Dexter for the Laserdisc replacement.

And Merlin is used to enable switching game roms (eg DL & SA).

(I presume Dexter allows transparent individual frame referencing - Hence the Pi powering it?)

Dexter uses the ldimage format http://www.daphne-emu.com/mediawiki/index.php/LDIMage

Daphne uses compressed video files and creates a frame reference dat file (Which is not very accurate).

What's new?

Mame has been able to play Laserdisc games with individual frame accuracy for some time now but DL & SA have not been available.

Mame Laserdisc.chd files were captured using an ATI capture card which also captured the frame reference info in the VBI (Datacasting).

The new capture system is https://www.domesday86.com/?p=1127

Developed to preserve the Acorn Domesday system and Laserdiscs.

Example: https://www.domesday86.com/?page_id=1698

A number of these capture devices were made. I'm sure one will make it's way to someone with DL & SA Laserdiscs.
