I hope everyone arrived home alright and those still travelling - safe travels.

What an awesome weekend of pinball and socialising and what a fantastic venue. Again thanks to the Vice City Players for hosting such a great event. Kudos to James, Kim, Peter and Chrysanthe, Scott, Steve and his son Curtis, Geoff Ellis and Steve Hyde for all the work trying to keep the games running all weekend - awesome effort! And a big shout out to Marty and Andrew who did fantastic job on the live streaming.

It was also wonderful to see and play a good variety of games from all eras. One of the highlights for me was playing The Beatles pinball machine. Thanks to AMD for bringing one down and Geoff for having the other one there. :023:

Thanks to all the players who came from far and wide to compete in this pinnacle event and proudly sponsored by AMD. We definitely had the best of the best here battling it out for the top spot. It was great to watch many of the players playing really well with some great results.

On behalf of the IFPA, Luke and I would like to thank and congratulate all who attended this years IFPA ACS and look forward to seeing you all again next year at the Ivory Tavern in Tweed Heads NSW.

It was great to meet everyone over the weekend, and hopefully I'll make it to a few events this year around the country and can catch up with you again. After the busy weekend, I think I'm going to need a nap this afternoon!

Cheers,

James

Thanks again for this awesome weekend of pinball.

I really loved the selection of hardcore EM machines, where nudging becomes an art form!

Just a heads up, the new qualifying season standings are now accessible via https://encapsulated.com.au/acs/

You can also explore last year's standing using https://encapsulated.com.au/acs/?year=2018

The only historical results available are 2018 - btw 2017 wouldn't make sense as events were not capped - but It will be interesting to compare them to this year's.

Cheers,

Thibaut

I'd like to add my "thank you" and congratulations to the organisers. This was a really well-run event!

Everything went smoothly, the techs were fantastic, the machines (except for one or two that developed mechanical issues) played really well and were in great condition, and the venue was truly great. What I particularly enjoyed was the amount of space. There was enough empty space for people to spread out, and we had none of the problems we get in smaller venues (people continuously bumping into each other, stepping on each others' heels, etc.)

All this made for a really relaxed atmosphere and great competitions.

Thanks again, I really had a good time!

Michi.

Finals

Top effort with the stream guys!

Few interesting timecodes to check out.

@RGR game on Iron Maiden in the Final 2 with @Lambo. On double danger from 4:07:00 and keeps playing for another 9 minutes to get to 230mil. Amazing play in a finals situation.

Does anyone know what happens at 4:11:00? 1 ball Rime of the Ancient Mariner multiball? Same thing happens with Lambo later. Ive never seen that before.

Check out the @Ryza vs @Dicky game on Buccaneer in the flip frenzy at 5:19:00. Some great saves by Grant in this game.

Great game on Surf Champ at 6:14:50!

World Cup Soccer - 6:28:45 - Marty on commentary "Logan Jones really needs to decide whether hes going to play this long game or just concede - if thats good enough to score..." Scores at the time are Logan on 491 million going into his last ball. Opponent on 118 million. Thats the thing with Flip Frenzy - you want to keep playing to make sure of the win, but you dont know what your opponent will do. I think Logan could have wrapped this up a few minutes earlier :) @spicecellar

6:44:50 - Last ball on Iron Maiden

7:07:00 - Game on Batman during the frenzy.

Really great venue and organisation of this event. Well done to all involved in planning and running this.

Big congratulations to RGR on the win. He was playing great all weekend and putting up some amazing scores during finals. I think choosing Iron Maiden for our top 16 game might have been a bad idea after seeing the 500mil he put up :) Put on a great demonstration of flipper skills during the stream. Keeping the ball under control and slowing the play down - making the shots at crucial times and some really good saves. A well deserved win. It would be good if the newspaper used a different quote though. Or even took it seriously? Saying how there was a "surgeon, professional gambler and even people who were unemployed..." You would think there would have been more diverse careers than those... Also its a shame RGR didn't get that job, we might have had a chance :)

@Lambo shows us why he will probably be taking the #1 spot in Australia soon. Equal highest score in qualifying and some huge scores over the weekend. 2nd place in Strikes and main event means he may possibly pip @specialharmony for #1 . Cant wait to see both PJ and Lambo representing Australia in Italy this year.

Just had a look at the results from Group B - checking how each player went on OLD - MID - NEW.

Top players in OLD

27/35 - HUGH DICKSON

25/35 - PAUL CARTER

25/35 - STACEY BORG

25/35 - ROB BURNES

23/35 - LOU MARTIRE

23/35 - PAUL JONES

MID

27/35 - RICHARD RHODES

27/35 - PAT NICHOLS

23/35 - STACEY BORG

23/35 - ROB MILLA

23/35 - MARTIN ROBBINS

NEW

29/35 - LUKE MARBURG

27/35 - RICHARD RHODES

27/35 - NIGEL GRYPSTRA

25/35 - ROB MILLA

23/35 - PAT NICHOLS

23/35 - MARTIN ROBBINS

So... how do you play older machines :) I had a shocker on them.

Thanks again to everyone who turned out and made it a great weekend of pinball. I was saying to those staying in our airbnb - how often do you see people who are playing in a tournament together staying in the same place together? We had people from Adelaide, Brisbane, Wollongong and Newcastle all staying together. Thats all come through meeting people at pinball tournaments throughout the country. What a great community it is!

Awesome stuff, some big points there.

Can someone explain to me in simple terms what the rating is/means? was a bit confused reading the description on the IFPA website

It’s basically how you’ve been performing lately. For example if you finished 1st in your last 10 events you’ll have a very good rating

Yes, it is a measure of how well you do relative to others in the tournaments you play in:

“Rather than focusing on head-to-head play we are using tournament finishing results as the data for the calculation. For a given player in a tournament, any player finished ahead of them is treated as a loss, and everyone they finish ahead of is treated as a win. Ties are when a player finishes in the same

position as other players”

So it rewards consistency. If you did well in a few tournaments and you were lousy in many more you will have a high ranking and a low rating.

Rankings is about collecting points. It doesn’t matter if you have 50 bad tournaments if you have 20 good ones.

Official confirmation pending, but looking at the weekend 15,16 Feb 20 at this stage.

I’ll be able to bring the missus up to this one! She can lie on the beach while I have even more fun with all of you!

If you can lock in the schedule 3 months out including finishing with a flip frenzy (so we have a set finishing time) that will really assist with booking flights and accommodation.

I second that. Knowing well in advance when to arrive and when to leave is hugely helpful when it comes to securing flights and accommodation.

l'll make you both a deal. Pretty sure you will rock up Friday and leave Sunday night. If thats the case safe to say that the first comp wont start before 7pm and the last wont finish past 6pm on Sunday. Therefore if you both feel that you wanna play on Friday then you'll rock up at say 2-3pm and leave on Sunday at 8-9pm to be safe. Or you might leave on Monday. Either way.. l'll give you this. Book your flights to arrive no later than 5 on Friday and leave no earlier than 8 on Sunday and if the schedule is different and you have to book again, l'll refund your flights for you. There, its in writing.

Works OK if you live in a capital city but regional centres with connecting flights or a long drive home from an airport can be a real pain. Knowing firm start and finish times makes things a lot easier to organise.

Finishing by lunch or early arv on Sunday makes it a lot easier for many.

The finals will start at the same time as previous years but they could finish a little later than predicted... what then? if you are really pushed for time dont play the extra event on Sunday arvo and fly out at 6. Knowing the schedule in advance will not change that.

Factor in daylight savings most will fly in to QLD, but comp will be in NSW so 1 hour time difference
