LAST FORTNIGHT:

We had 46 players at Netherworld last fortnight. Once again, your support of the BPC and Pinball in general is amazing! It was also great to see a few new faces last meet - welcome Caitlin and Travis!

The Top 8 pinball wizards last fortnight were as follows:

1st - Grant Quinn

3rd - Chris Wade

4th - David Clarke

Random draw awards - Free entry for their next BPC meet:

David Clarke & Caitlin Boucher

Top qualifier award - $50 voucher, compliments of Netherworld

Thibaut Allender

TOMORROW'S MEET:

Qualifying starts anytime from 4pm. $15 entry which covers all of your games. All games should be completed by around 9pm - no NEW qualifying games may commence after 9pm. As always, you may qualify on your own, with a friend or as a group and do it at your own leisure.

Do you have a friend who is interested in joining a pinball tournament? Don't forget that our "Bring-a-Friend" promo is still available, and some of our existing players were able to use it to their advantage last meet. Ask me for more info!

Our machines choices are available for tomorrow night. The first 8 machines chosen by you will be used in tomorrow's competition. Remember the following when choosing though:

1) Maximum of one machine choice per player (unless prompted to select again).

2) TDs & Scorers are ineligible to choose a machine.

3) Machine owners at Netherworld are unable to choose their own machine(s).

4) If you chose a machine last fortnight, you cannot choose the same one again this fortnight.

Your choices are as follows:

* Spider-Man VE

WHAT'S ON:

Here's what's on for the next fortnight locally:

* Tues 19th June - Brisbane Pinball Club @ Netherworld

* Wed 20th June - Coolangatta Tweed Pinball Club

* Sun 24th June - Grotto Matchplay

* Fri 29th-Sat 30th June - Flipswitch

* Fri 1st Jun - Grotto Strike

Elsewhere & other events:

* Fri 22nd June - West End Wizards @ Townsville

* Tickets for the Netherworld Flip Frenzy on July 7th will go on sale on Eventbrite this Sunday from 12 noon.

* Qualifying for the Yeerongpilly monthly leagues will also wrap up in the next week or so, with finals taking place on Friday 29th June.

You may have noticed that the Pincadia events are currently not included on the calendar. For those that were not already aware, the venue suffered a devastating fire about a week ago and will unfortunately be out of action for some time. As it stands, the 2-strikes event scheduled for Monday 25th June has been cancelled, with other events up in the air at present. Our thoughts are currently Dave & Tanya, and anyone else involved during this difficult time. The pinball community will all be rallying behind you and I'm sure will be willing to offer their help and assistance where required to help get things back up and running once again - bigger, better and stronger!

2018 BRISBANE MASTERS - PRESENTED BY AMD & YOUNG HENRYS:

There's just a touch over 4 weeks remaining before the biggest ever pinball event to be held in Australia begins. Have you got your entry in yet? This event is now being sponsored by the wonderful folks at Amusement Machine Distributors (AMD), who are providing us with not one, but TWO Iron Maiden Pro machines for the comp, as well as an extra $3,000! 4 big days of pinball and 5 events at the newly confirmed venue, the Rydges Hotel at Fortitude Valley.

For those who have got your entries in so far, don't leave it too late to get payments in. You have until July 8th to send through payments to secure your spots, mainly for the Flip Frenzies. Paid Reserves may be called up if your fees haven't been received by then. Please let me know if you need banking details for a transfer, otherwise I can collect payments at tomorrow night's meet if that is easier for you.

For all questions in regards to the Brisbane Masters, please see Jimmy or myself.

'TIL NEXT TIME!

See you at the next Pinball meet, wherever that might be. If you have any feedback, or wish to be added to the BPC email list, please send me an email at dj_j2008@hotmail.com .

Cheers,

Lambo

PINCADIA EVENTS UPDATE:

There has been considerable deliberation about what to do with the Monday fortnightly Pincadia comps, following their (hopefully) temporary closure nearly 3 weeks ago.

Following discussions between Dave, Tanya and the TDs, as well as other venue operators, we have received the blessing from the Pincadia operators to continue the Monday night events in the interim.

The next 2 events have been decided on as follows:

* Monday 9th July - Mini Matchplay will be held at Netherworld

* Monday 23rd July - 2 Strikes event will also be held at Netherworld.

Events after this will also continue at either Netherworld, Pinball Haus, other venue (if available), or Pincadia (if and when re-opened).

The TDs have all agreed to keep entry fee for each event at $10 for the time being, with all prize money collected to be donated to Dave & Tanya Lowe. We also want to open up the possibility of players donating an optional $5 extra to assist Dave & Tanya with repairs, re-opening, etc. Please note that this is OPTIONAL.

A special shout out and thanks also needs to go to Netherworld, along with Jimmy Nails for not only willing to provide a venue when they actually closed, but they have also offered to donate the prizes for the next 2 Monday meets as well. I'd also like to thank Babak @ Pinball Haus for his generous offer of providing his venue for play outside of regular trade as well.

Please note that with the Mondays @ Netherworld, this is outside their normal trade. The bar will be open for us, however it will be BYO food as the kitchen will be closed.

Lastly, on behalf of Pincadia, I would like to thank the whole pinball community for their support. I know Dave & Tanya are extremely overwhelmed by all of their help and kind messages so far. It is hoped that by continuing on the Pincadia events, we will carry on that support for when they re-open bigger, better & stronger down the track.

We are hoping to confirm the August meet venues in the coming days.

2018 BRISBANE MASTERS - PRESENTED BY AMD & YOUNG HENRYS:

There's just only 3 weeks to go before the biggest ever pinball event to be held in Australia begins. Have you got your entry in yet? Thank you to nearly everyone for getting your payments in for the big weekend. For those that haven't, especially if you have your names down for the Flip Frenzies, you have until July 8th to send through payments to secure your spots. Paid Reserves may be called up if your fees haven't been received by then. Please let me know if you need banking details for a transfer, otherwise I can collect payments in cash at Tuesday's meet, or the Flip Frenzy next Saturday at Netherworld.

The machine listing for the big 4 day event has now been posted up on the Facebook event page and Aussie Arcade forum. I'd like to send a special shout-out and thank you to all players and venues who are supplying their machines for us. Your contributions haven't gone unnoticed and cannot thank you enough for helping us make this event what it has become today.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEXT BPC MEET:

With the Brisbane Masters just around the corner, we are expecting a larger crowd to this Tuesday's meet. It is extremely likely that some of the interstate and overseas players that are in the Masters will be joining us, and we also have a bus load of players heading down the highway from the Sunshine Coast as well. As a result, we are extending the qualifying time on Tuesday to 4pm-10pm to allow for the extra players. Please note that no qualifying games may be started after 10pm.

As mentioned, qualifying starts anytime from 4pm. $15 entry per player - this covers all of your games. After 4pm, no warm up games are allowed on the competition machines, however Netherworld has a number of other machines in the venue on pay-per-play that are available for a warm up. As always, you may qualify on your own, with a friend or as a group and do it at your own leisure.

Due to the number of extra players that are likely to attend, plus with most of my time and attention now turning to the Brisbane Masters, there will be no machine selection this fortnight. I have already allocated the 8 machines that will be being used for this Tuesday meet and have been based on either quick play times, or that they will be some of titles at Brisbane Masters.

* The Walking Dead Pro

* Magic Castle

* Star Wars Premium

* Total Nuclear Annihilation

* Trident

* Creature From The Black Lagoon

* Batman '66 LE

* Swords Of Fury

Back-up machine will be The Twilight Zone

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'TIL NEXT TIME!

See you at the next Pinball meet, wherever that might be. If you have any feedback, or don't wish to receive these emails anymore, please send me an email at dj_j2008@hotmail.com .

Cheers,

Hi everybody!

It sure has been a big fortnight here in the South East corner. Did you manage to make it any of the pinball meets around the area in the last 2 weeks? Or were you a part of the biggest pinball event in the Southern Hemisphere last weekend? Or both? Let's re-visit the last fortnight and look to see what's ahead!

LAST BPC MEET:

In what kicked off a big week of pinball, we had 48 players at our last BPC meet on the 17th. We had a few interstate and overseas visitors joining us, as well as a few who made the trek down from the Sunny Coast for the evening. Welcome to everyone who joined us for the first time! We also had a very different Top 4 as the usual suspects (except for Mike P!) were unable to go the distance. Congratulations goes to David Clarke on your very first Brisbane Pinball Club win, taking down Mike Pascale on Trident on the last match of the night. David has also now qualified for the QLD State Championship in December. Jimmy Nails rounded out the podium finishes in 3rd, besting Jessica DeNardo in the 3rd place playoff.

The Top 8 pinball wizards last fortnight were as follows:

1st - David Clarke

2nd - Mike Pascale

3rd - Jimmy Nails

4th - Jessica DeNardo

5th - Gino Thimios

6th - Travis Bishop

7th - Kim Dozier

8th - Steven Riding

2x Random draw award - Free entry for their next BPC meet:

Russell Dagger & Chris Jennings

Top qualifier award - $50 voucher, compliments of Netherworld

Nicolas Noben

Results were a little delayed being submitted due to the Brisbane Masters, but they have now been sent. Look out for full results on the IFPA site in the coming days... https://www.ifpapinball.com/

WHAT'S ON:

Here's what's on for the next fortnight locally:

Tues 31st July - Brisbane Pinball Club @ Netherworld

Wed 1st Aug - Gold Coast Pinball Club @ Timezone Surfers Paradise

Wed 1st Aug - Sunshine Coast Pinball @ Sneaky Baron

Fri 3rd Aug - Grotto 2 Strike

Mon 6th Aug - Pincadia Mini Matchplay @ Pinball Haus

Sat 11th Aug - Netherworld Flip Frenzy @ Netherworld (sold out!)

Sun 12th Aug - SBC Pinball @ Sacchromyces Beer Café

The Yeerongpilly monthly league qualifying will also kick off in the next few days for the month of August. Finals will take place Friday 24th August at Autographed Memorabilia.

BRISBANE MASTERS:

Wow! What an amazing weekend! Approximately 140 different players were involved in 5 events over 4 days of pinball action, which is the biggest ever pinball event to be held in the Southern Hemisphere! Full results and a wrap will be posted in the coming days, but you can check out all the event winners and placegetters at Aussie Arcade here: https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/91853-2018-Brisbane-Masters-July-19th-22nd?p=1191380#post1191380

I would personally like to thank everyone involved in running the event - the machine suppliers, the techs who worked on the machines, to everyone who delivered and picked up machines (Dave/Zanderzone & Hugh in particular), to the volunteers who helped with scoring/check-in/shirts (David Irving - you were a big big help mate!), to the Natalie & everyone at the Rydges Hotel for their assistance with organising the venue, to Barbz for giving up his spare time for the Flip Frenzies on Sat & Sun night (awesome as always mate!), to Vinnie, Jono & everyone with running and supplying equipment for the live stream all weekend, to everyone who flew in from up north/interstate/overseas, but most of all - to each and every single player who wanted to play in the event. Like I said on the Sunday night - I love each and every single one of you! We have such an amazing pinball community here in Australia, and this past weekend showed exactly that. There were plenty of highs and unfortunately some lows, but overall I really hope that everyone enjoyed themselves over weekend.

I also wanted to send a special thank you to our amazing sponsors for this year's event - AMD, Young Henrys & Netherworld. To Michael and the crew at Amusement Machine Distributors, we simply cannot thank you for once again supplying and sponsoring 2 Iron Maiden Pro machines, plus the $3000 in prize money. This support helped make this event become the pinnacle event on the Australian pinball calendar, and hopefully continue towards greater exposure to the world. Young Henrys & Netherworld were also instrumental in their support once again in 2018 as well, and without them, this event may not have happened - thank you to both!

Last of all, I'm saving the biggest thank you to my partner in crime - Jimmy Nails. We did it mate! Onwards and upwards towards the 2019, which I can guarantee will be even bigger and better! We hope you can all join us once again for the 2019 Brisbane Masters!

CHICAGO GAMING COMPANY CONFIRMS 3RD TITLE!

In what was probably the worst kept secret in pinball, Chicago Gaming have announced during the past week that the 3rd pinball they are remaking will be the amazing Monster Bash! Keep an eye out for further updates and release details. Who knows where they may pop up!

In the meantime though, you can always a beautifully playing Monster Bash at Pinball Haus anytime! Call in and say g'day to Babak.

PINCADIA EVENTS:

As posted elsewhere earlier today...

Ladies & gentlemen,

We have a venue for the next 2 Monday night Pincadia meets. The Matchplay on 6th August and 2 Strikes on 20th August will be heading to Pinball Haus at 36 Baxter St, Fortitude Valley. We'd like to thank Babak Hadi for very graciously opening his doors outside of normal hours for hosting at least the next 2 events.

Pinball Haus will be opening their doors from 6pm on both Monday evenings, with competition to start from the usual 7pm. Entry will be the usual $10 per person, plus donations will be greatly accepted towards Dave & Tanya.. So come join us for a night of pinball fun

Players please note:

* Free Parking will be available at the Black Pearl Epicure just down the road from the venue.

Once again, we'd like to thank Babak for allowing us to use his venue for the next 2 Monday night events. For those that have been to Pinball Haus, you will know that all machines are in spectacular condition, and we hope you can join us to share the experience first-hand.

SOUTHERN HEMIPSHERE PINBALL CHAMPIONSHIP:

With the Brisbane Masters over for another year, the next major pinball tournament on the calendar is the first ever Southern Hemisphere Pinball Championship in October. This is being held at David Peck's place in Pukehoke, NZ, who has an amazing pinball collection all under one roof! There are already a number of Aussies heading over for the event, but would love to see a few more making the trek and wrangle the title away from the Kiwis! You can check out all the details at the link below:

https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/94105-ANNOUNCEMENT-The-Southern-Hemisphere-Pinball-Championships-73-sold-out!

Please note that qualifying must be completed by the normal time of 9pm (no more qualifying games can commence after this time).

Hello there!

Just a quick email this week. We've got last fortnight's results, what's coming up and important info regarding tomorrow night. Let's get straight into it!

LAST BPC MEET:

In what could probably be described as a pinball hangover, we had a slightly smaller crowd at the BPC meet, with 38 players in attendance. A big congratulations goes to Mark Robinson on qualifying in 1st place, with some amazing games early on to lead the pack. We also saw Julian Stavleu qualify for Finals for the first time, along with Rhys McHale as well. It's always great to see new names making their way up the qualifying ladder and watching everyone improve their game.

The Top 8 pinball wizards last fortnight were as follows:

1st - Jason Lambert

2nd - Chris Jennings

WHAT'S ON:

Here's what's on for the next fortnight locally:

Tues 14th Aug - Brisbane Pinball Club @ Netherworld

Wed 15th Aug - Coolangatta-Tweed Pinball Club @ Timezone Coolangatta

Sun 19th Aug - Grotto Matchplay

Mon 20th Aug - Pincadia 2 Strike @ Pinball Haus

Sat 25th Aug - Flipswitch @ Autographed Memorabilia

There's also only a few days left to qualify Yeerongpilly monthly leagues for the month of August. As a reminder, finals will take place Friday 24th August at Autographed Memorabilia.

NEXT BPC MEET:

Why it's tomorrow night of course - Tuesday 14th August. Now it is of course the Brisbane Show Public Holiday the following day, so the venue will be extremely busy. We would suggest to start qualifying as early as you possibly can, as there may even be queues to get in the door as the night rolls on.

Qualifying starts anytime from 4pm. Please note that qualifying must be completed by the normal time of 9pm (no more qualifying games can commence after this time).

Now unfortunately, I do need to address the elephant in the room, which is the discussion of cheating. It is a real shame that for a fun social event such as the BPC that it needs to be brought up, but we as humans like to push the boundaries at times.

While the BPC is designed to be a fun, social event, it's still an IFPA registered event, which means we need to abide by the rules that are in place. Things like playing on with a stuck ball during multiball, or restarting a game either mid game or at the end of a game to try and better your score for example, are simply not allowed. I'd like to think that this doesn't happen within our community for these events, but we have to ensure the integrity of our competition and the IFPA. If anyone is found to be blatantly cheating, or manipulating the machines to change a result, you will be instantly removed from the event and risk not being welcomed back to any other event in the future. Just remember - pinball is supposed to be about FUN!!

Now, with the difficult part out of the way, it's your turn this week to choose the machine for tomorrow night. There are a few changes for this week due to Netherworld's Sideshow being on. When choosing, don't forget to keep in mind the following:

1) One choice per player only. If your pick is already previously chosen, you will be able to pick again (if any picks remain)

2) Machine owners are unable to choose their own machines.

3) Out of respect for the players, please only pick a machine if you intend on coming along tomorrow.

GARY STERN DOWN UNDER!

Local Pinheads were treated to a special visit by Mad Gaz himself this past Tuesday & Wednesday on the Gold Coast & Brisbane area. First up was a dinner held at the Burleigh North Surf Club on the Tuesday evening, with members of Timezone, Netherworld and more attending. Next up was a quick visit to the depths of the Netherworld here in Brisbane early Wednesday morning, before heading back to the Gold Coast, starring at the Coolangatta-Tweed Pinball Club meet on Wednesday night. Members were able to share a few interesting tales, including an insight into the future of Stern Pinball. The whirlwind trip finished off at the annual Pinfest event held in Newcastle, hosted by the Newcastle Pinball Association, with Gary hosting a seminar on the Saturday.

We look forward to hearing many stories from those that were in attendance, especially from those that were able to get to Pinfest over the weekend.
