bally replacement boards

Recommended Posts

its not $200.. is USD200 plus freight plus gst.. more like 350.

if you want a drop in MPU you can buy an alltek board locally https://www.pinballspareparts.com.au/ultimate-mpu.html

or get @Skybeaux to fix yours

probably well worth reconsidering the assumption that the mpu is the issue as well....

Yep, more likely connectors rather than the mpu.

Best off sending the mpu and driver board to ken for an overhaul. New headers, IC's, caps etc.

I have a Matahari aith intermittent problems - CPU rebooting and game starting over amongst other freezing.

Are these MPU replacements a simple drop in? For $200 it might be a cheap fix.

thanks

George

I had the same issue with my board. My board looked in ok condition so I sent it to Ken to fix. He's a straight up guy and will tell you if its worth fixing or not.

Make sure the center harness saddle clamp is supporting the weight of the main head wiring harness and isn't just looped through it. Without this simple part doing it's intended job results in the board wiring connectors having to hold the weight of this harness.

Also check the ground is nice and tight. Seeing as your machine is booting, my money is on one of these issues being your problem however dodgy rom sockets can cause similar problems as well. Something Ken will fix and I'm sure Ken will find other things that greatly increase reliability.

Money very well spent.

to answer your question, yes they are a simple drop in.

you set a dip switch bank to suit your Mata Hari.

you may also need to upgrade your solenoid driver board if you haven't already.

without a fast, clean, solid 5VDC supply at power up it will never start the MPU booting.

Rich, my rectifier board is terrible. Who in the group sells the rectifier boards? I will need the connector sets too as some coin op 30 years ago soldered wires directly to some of the pins.

YUK!!!!. This is so often the case

@Tangles sells a very nice replacement board here on AA https://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/93582-NEW-Stern-Ballly-rectifier-board-Tangles-Pin-Parts

If it was me I'd be replacing that board 1st before chasing any other board "problems". They are 99% always shot with hacks and getting very tired. You'll be amazed how much better the game will now work.

I'm interested in this too. Currently working on a Paragon that is crashing mid game and I'm trying to decide if a replacement rectifier board is worth it.

yes has been swapped out at some point, that isn't an original Mata Hari rectifier board.

Mata Hari came out with an AS-2518-18.

That rec board is an AS-2518-49 that came out on Future Spa, Space Invaders and Kiss.

even so, it may look ugly but wires soldered directly to header pins eliminate bad connections.

have you checked the test points for their correct voltages @lentildude ?
