  1. So i'm late into this but let me get this straight: you can buy CKD dedicated cabinets based on original plans from the States for your favourite games??
  2. ^ yep, was Pot Black until about 1989 and then became Bumpers until the place closed around 1993/4. It used to have about 5 or 6 pins along the back wall, next to the coin exchange counter but they were all old school, early to mid 80's machines. I remeber they had Firepower & Space Shuttle (?).
  3. Hi guys, had a couple of bites on this 720 cab i've got but i'm leaning towards restoring & enjoying it first, so I may as well start asking questions. First things first, i've been using the following site as my initial guide to handling a resto on one of these: http://www.720zone.com/ Now I just wanted to ask does anyone know where you can buy the lowboy trolleys as seen in the below pic, or do you just make one up yourself? It would cerainly make moving goliath around a whole lot easier.
  4. Will update, am in Forster these days. Thanks for the walm welcome all. :)
  5. From that era, I gotta go with Gyruss because I was pretty good at it. But for pure influence on arcade game popularity, it's Pacman and Space Invaders by a bloody mile.
  6. No option for Double Dragon, or the daddy of them all Super Punch Out? Glass Joe is disappointed.... +1
  7. famous last words.... hope you got that one in writing! :042:
  8. Wasnt there a place on the Gold Coast (I think Cavell Ave) called 'Grundys'? I remember mates going on hols there in the mid 80's who used to come home raving about this arcade called Grundys.... we were all of 12.
  9. I have one, in Forster 4 hrs north of Sydney. Pretty sure it's a dedicated Atari cab with the top boom box..... but after looking at the LAI cab pix maybe it's an LAI. Complete and powers on, however the joystick needs a complete rebuild as it gets stuck on the diagnostics screen and wont rotate smoothly. I have all the parts to do a resto but not the time, unfortunately. Happy to take pix if anyone wants them just for interest's sake as i'll have to take them anyway if i'm going to get all your help(s) restoring it, but i'm not that keen to sell her. But hey, money talks. ;) I've only had good experiences buying from them, everthing turned up and promptly.
  10. How long does it naturally take for a monitor to discharge? An hour? A day? A week? I've had my 720 turned off and unplugged for about a week now.
  11. 37, but still enjoy the same shit I did when I was 21 (much to the annoyance of the mrs)
  12. dont we all :( Wonderful collection, bloody inspiring in many ways. Do you collect Nintendo Game & Watch? I'm just starting getting into them again.
  13. ^ thanks! Forgot to mention once upon a time when 14 I clocked Gyruss (aka Venus) 3 times in the one game, just over the million points. Crowd of mates all around me, felt very God-like briefly (as you do). And then the teacher on the f*cking school excursion said 'the bus is leaving' ..... and pulled the wall plug out while I still had two men left. :realmad: If there was something sharp nearby....
  14. Hi guys, been reading for a few weeks thought it's about time to post. Name's Pete, 37 going on 18 - why else would I still be interested in bloody arcade games haha! :D Grew up in Taree NSW but spent much of my youth summers in Tuncurry/Forster pumping 20 cent pieces (and the odd dollar coin.... hello OutRun deluxe) into machines at the long-closed Pot Black of Tuncurry, and The Colony of Forster. Arcade days stretched from about 1984 thru to about 1993, what I like to think of as the arcade's *almost* golden era. Fave game was far & away Atari's 720 Degrees, and I have a complete dedicated cab in my garage that i've been meaning to attempt a resto on for a couple of years now, collecting bits and pieces from Ram Controls, Phoenix Arcade, and good ol' ebay to help in that task. Finding the time though.... :( Outside of 720, fave games were Operation Wolf, Power Drift (deluxe), Ghosts n Goblins, Galaga, Double Dragon (lol just elbow everyone), Punch Out, Flying Shark, Super Hang On, Afterburner (just for the cab, mostly), Missile Command, Bomb Jack, Popeye, Elevator Action, Thundercade, Black Tiger, Golden Axe, Hard Drivin', and Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road (nitro ftw!). I absolutley HATED when arcade owners quickly retired the early 80's classics like Pacman, Popeye, and Bomb Jack in favour of more & more crappo driving sims like Final Lap just because they 'needed the space'. :realmad: Dammit, what was wrong with Pole Position and surely Spy Hunter shoulda been classed as a driving sim?! ;) Even though most of the classics you can play on your XBox these days, as we all know it's just not the same. I'd love to do up my own personal arcade one day and have my list of 'must have' games in my mind that I often search US ebay for, only to baulk at the freighting costs. I'd also LOVE to meet or talk to anyone here with the requisite skills who's interested in taking on the job of restoring my 720 for me in exchange for some $$$. I'm handy with chasing things down and getting the bits together..... embarrassingly not so handy with the tools or electronics.
