  1. Well the tarp half worked. Had 50mm of rain and one big pool area. Prob about 300 to 400 litres so way too heavy to lift over the side wall. And still misty rain so too dangerous to get on top o siphon out. So put a small hole in tarp and am tossing buckets of water out window opening. Will tighten it all up then hopefully no more rain! The rest is pretty dry!
  2. Garage is 7m long x 6m wide. I have a work ute so don't really care about that and is left outside (we have 2 acres in semi rural - so heaps of room), just the family car is parked in there, plus cupboards of pinball spares, and typically 1 or 2 project pinballs that can't fit in the air conditioned games room!
  3. Been a while since i've done a pinball restoration thread (plenty have happened over hte last 12 months), but i always enjoy other people's build threads....so not a new games room, but a house extension. We have 4 kids, and currently they are sharing 2 bedrooms, so its time to get them into a room each. Below is the house and garage abefore starting. The plan is to lift the roof of the existing garage up, and leave the bottom as a garge, and put 3 bedrooms in the 6m wide x 7m long space. Plan to re-use the roof sheets and trusses to save a few $. I built the garage around 8 years ago (only 2 kids then), and am kicking myself we didn't go full height to match the rest of the house as would have saved a heap of $ rather than doing it now! Anyway, first taks was to clean up the inside of the garage (a couple of days of sorting, had cupboards full of pinball parts and general household junk), then remove the garage roller door - lucky no-one lost an eye when reducing the spring tension off the door! Then next step was to remove the ceiling sheeting - i had forgotten that we insulated the ceiling.....with the old scratchy stuff - such a revolting job puling down sheets and getting fibrelgass insulation down your neck. Did a big dump run and got rid of the old fibro and insulation. From the first pic, you can see the house electical connection point is in the end fascia, where we intend on bringing the new roof up to meet the old roof - so had to change the house connection point to the side. Luckily the energy company were fairly quick with the work request and we re-routed it to the side of the house. We came up with this design - the long skinny room on the western side is a bit awkward, but was the best we could come up with to ensure similar room sizes in the space, and we needed to have the hall in the centre left part to match up with the existing house - we are sacrificing one room upstairs as a hallway, but will end up with 5 rooms upstairs, so can keep an eye on the kids and make sure they aren't slipping into the games room downstairs too much! Then pumped down outdoor AC units and disconnected, and removed a few sheets to get roof ready for removal Next step was to remove the old roof sheeting - not too big a job, but stored it all away for re-use Below was the structure of the garage when i built it 8 yrs ago, before it was sheeted Then we installed a 6m long 200mm UB across the span - after a bunch of brackets were welded onto it for the floor joists. Mongrel heavy thing, but hired a lifter to support it while it was welded in place. Floor joists installed Then we started to build the 2nd floor and build walls We then noticed a slight bow in the openeing for the garage door....so installed a 2nd ibeam sitting on 100x100 4mm RHS posts - solid as a rock! Top view of the structure It was at this point that we started looking closer at the trusses i made 8 yrs ago, and realised they were 40mm higher (and as a result, slightly different pitch) than the existing 2nd story trusses. MY ones i made were out of 125mmx 50mm x 3mm steel - they weigh a ton but are very strong. So we came up with the idea of dropping the internal wall/cieling height by 40mm, so apex height of roof matches, but then needed to make some timber wedges to go along the top of the trusses to maintain the correct roof pitch. So a few hours on the circular saw ripping lengths of timber, then glueing/screwing to the top of the trusses - then also had another few good hours on the angle grinder, as had to cut the lower section of the tails of the trusses off so it matched the hight/angle of the existing soffit! I was keen to try and manhandle the trusses back up, but the builders were soft and wanted to hire a crane. So unfortunately we had a delay of a few days, but admittedly it made the job very easy. 45 mins and 7 trusses lifted up and tied down At this point its 2 pm Friday arvo, and decent rain predicted for Monday - so i am super keen to put up roof battens and roof sheeting - but the builders decide thats too much work for Friday arvo, so said they will try for saturday - but then that was a no go as well. Then i decided to double check my old roof sheets i was going to reuse, and they are actually 150mm too short each side - so had to order new ones!!! More $$$. So on the weekend, my wife and i started running some electrical cables and AC drains Now its sundary arvo, and the rain for Monday looks almost certain for 20-50mm - i was pretty stressed about it all getting wet, do did the run to Bunnings to get a 9m square tarp, and cover it all up. Got it done just on dark - hopefully its not too windy and the predicted rain doesn't eventuate! Now its the waiting game, to see when the roof sheets are ready, and the builders next availability to get the new roof on. Will keep you updated.
  4. you are buying the wrong coins then....plenty of gains to be made in crypto coins, just gotta do research, manage risk and be smart.
  5. Had a game on a mates LE yesterday, upper playfield is fun, magnet inside overlord shot is cool as well. That said, think i'd be happy enough with a pro. Was dirty, as got within 1 city of getting to the end of the game but choked! 850M score, need to work out how to stack stuff a bit now to try and blow scores up. Really fun shooter
  6. Welcome if you are new to the Townsville Pinball scene - if you haven't already, feel free to join our local Facebook page - a lot of local info is posted there https://www.facebook.com/groups/pinballnq Plus there is a comp on Saturday from 1pm at the Pinball Holiday House in West End. Looking forward to an awesome weekend of pinball
  7. Hmm, i know of a Zac Stars Phoenix that a guy may be keen to move. It works fine, although no sound, and maybe one flipper was a bit weak. It also has a bunch of spares, i can't recall if the spares included a mostly populated playfield, or just a big bucket of playfield parts. But its pretty much a working machine so you likely wouldn't want to part it out. Think he would let it go under $3k. I don't see him much but can try adn make contact if you are interested.
  8. All, A mate of mine picked up a project Genie. During transport, the headbox flew off the back of the ute...backglass and displays are stuffed. Headbox is in multiple pieces. Boards appear intact. The main cab stayed in place. So he is looking at all options right now - either source a backglass and displays and make/buy a headbox OR Sell the complete cabinet and playfield as is - maybe for a retheme? The playfield is not the best from what i have seen, but far from the worst as well. The machine was bought as a project, so i can't verify if the boards are all 100% or not. Anyway, let me know if anyone has any leads on the above parts, or if anyone is interested in it as is, and i can pass details onto my mate.

Picked up a lot of vintage stuff the other day. Some from 1976!
  10. Put the flap between two pieces of wood clamped together to drill. Really easy and no risk of catching the edge of the drill bit. I just use the rivets and typically do an awkward balancing act with the ramp upside down and a piece of 25x25mm timber on the top side to protect the head of the rivet then use a centre punch to spread the bottom end of the rivet out then a larger punch to squash the rest of the bottom end of the rivet out and secure it. Looks ugly from underneath but no-one ever sees it and done plenty of new flaps this way and all have held for years. No special tools required.
  11. Awesome update Pat and top job. I do question your statement that you did some of the work....your wife seems to have all the skills haha. Great game with Johhny. A word of warning from personal experience with tiger grass. It will grow quickly and look great for the first bit. However when it starts seeding there are millions of seeds and bits of tassel that spread around. Could be a real pain with the pool. We dug ours out eventually which was a real prick of a job but very worthwhile. May be worth considering getting it passed approval stage and then look at other options. Lilly pillys or syzigium species are pretty good. Native, fairly fast growing and always green and only need a light trim every now and then.
  12. Hmm, i've left after i've been kicked out of a comp (strikes) to get sleep so i can attend work the next day in a fit state, or to spend time with family. To me, my mental health (tied directly to sleep), and family are far more important than a pinball comp. Typically its only ever the finalists that hang around at comps at my place, plus a few spectators. While its great to have spectators, i also appreciuate people have lives to live and other commitments, so am not fussed if they leave before the comp ends. Or if you are talking about people leaving during a matchplay event, then i don't think that is ideal, however still apreciate sometimes there are more important things to do. I had one guy pull the pin as he has sever social anxiety, he just bailed and messaged me later apologising - i have no issue with this. And at the end of the day, if someone chooses to leave since they are doing rubbish, then whatever, its not really a big issue, they've paid theri entry fee, os they can choose what they want. Sometimes with my young bloke i've left early, as the nights just get too late for a 12 yr old.
  13. Old mate rang me this morning, hopefully i can sort it for him when he gets it to Townsville. Not worked on one before though
  14. Sneak preview of setup for both Friday comps PXL_20221204_081139438.TS.mp4
  15. Shaping up to be awesome. For those attending my place on the Friday, will have food there and kids will have some drinks for sale as well. Feel free to bring togs if you want a dip in the pool after qualifying
  16. He was in North Qld last week, however has work backed up until after Christmas
  17. This will prob be for sale in next few months. New cabinet. No topper. Playfield is pretty good. Haven't got it fully running yet and will be flat out the next few weeks with others stuff so might be out on hold for a while
  18. As above, chasing a data east, whitestar or Sega display board in working condition.
  19. Stern star trek pro. Works and plays fine. Have listed at a cheap price since playfield reds have faded. Also time for a rerubber. One line locked on DMD. New playfield available for $695 USD if you want to swap it, or just play and enjoy it. A few nics on decals as well. This was in a barely used arcade but near a window so assume UV light caused the fade. Plastics are fine. Also interested in swaps for other sterns with cash if required. Not interested in data east or Sega titles. Machine is in Townsville but I can pack ready for Bill or other transport options. Also open to payment in cryptocurrency. $Sold or swaps. Can provide more pics or video chat and run through machine.
  20. Hi All Picked up a high hand in pieces and slowly getting it back together which has been challenging as it looks like plenty of parts are missing. Just wondering if anyone has a digital copy of schematics to help out getting it functioning Thanks Rob
  21. I'm happy enough to store a machine at my place in Townsville for Bill to pick up or drop off. Have done this before for people north or west of Townsville
