I replaced mine with an Arcade Upkeep Dimming Backbox Panel, its an LED dimming panel. I got three for Walking Dead, LOTR and Sopranos because the fluoro lighting was broken, no more starters and tubes and ballast for me anymore, runs on 12V only. No more 100Vac and its power supply needed. Very vibrant light, even on Sopranos.
Come with all the bits you need to install it, and it bolts in place of the existing fluoro mount screw holes with a number of mounting positions.
They do Whitestar and SAM and has user adjustable brightness, and automatically dimms down (user adjustable as well) when you start a game to prevent reflection on the upper part of the playfield glass while playing. This, paired with DMD glare filter (from Mr Pinball Aus) and PDI playfield glass, DMD and backglass reflecting on the playfield glass is a thing of the past. At the end of the game, after about 20 seconds (game over sequence and graphics) its brightens back up for attract mode again. Brilliant.
Very handy upgrade but its not cheap - $74US plus $60US Shipping to Oz. Check it out on Pinside Shops - Arcade Upkeep
