  1. Welcome. I'm only relatively new here as well. The November Expo will be a great place to try lots of different games and meet some like minded people. At the end of the day the best game is going to be the one you like the most. In the meantime, the PINSIDE.com website and Internet Pinball Database have a Top 100 / Top 300 which collate ratings and comments from other players who either own or have played games. Most of the top 20 games are getting pretty pricey, but there are plenty of great games ranked lower than that. I found this article pretty good: http://gameroomblog.com/guides/the-top-ten-best-bargains-in-pinball-today These are not "a" titles but are mostly really good games at reasonable prices. Though these titles are becoming more expensive as people realise they are actually good games. Usually it's the theme that holds them back - but the gameplay is good. To get an idea of prices try pinpedia.com and look only at the auctions that actually had bids on them, not the buy it now ones. Just remember pins in the US are significantly cheaper than here (30% ?) or ask around on this forum once you find one you like. If you have time the podcasts are good to get info, but you have to be really into it to listen to an hour of pinball talk. The local Pinheadz podcast is great, and Coast2Coast and The Pinball Podcast from the US are also worth a listen. Around Sydney, the 2 best destinations I've found are the Courthouse Hotel in Newtown and Pinball HQ at the Coogee Diggers (they have a club u can join as we'll). There's a pub in Newcastle that looks good and Pizza and Pinball in Newcastle as well. Just remember that most games in the top 100 of any list are still going to be really fun. It's all pinball and one pin ranked 74 is far better than none. Enjoy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  2. Yeh I was going to suggest @ocyen buy one good value pin and them keep flipping it as he gets sick of it. That's what I was thinking I'd do when I got my first pin and now I have 4 and 2 more on the way. It's an addiction not a hobby. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. And they'll have to somehow sync it to iTunes before they can start using it.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Some great points ocyen. That's one big problem in getting new people into the hobby is the lack of pins 'in the wild'. And when you find them, they are often expensive/set really hard/in bad condition. Not really a good way to get people interested. But I think the fact it's a 'real' physical machine that behaves randomly will be a draw card in the future. There's no pre programmed result and it's authentic. The opposite of a programmed app/game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Yeh lights look great. Whole machine looked pretty good - like a MM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Saw that too. I thought it looked a little too powder coated if that makes sense. Thinking I might change to silver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. This sounds promising: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/karl-urban-speech-recorded-last-week Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Buy an iphone and keep it nib for your kids when they're 40. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Can you add TZ, TOTAN, TOM, and Fathom. Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  10. It'd definitely a generational thing. But it may still have at least 10 years to run - maybe more. I think prices for used machine are definitely at their peak though. The market is still relatively niche - there is just not enough people with the will or way to own a pin. It's still just a hobby. And with the upcoming glut of new games entering the market, used prices will stabilise or even fall. Did previous generations have an equivalent? And what happened to the values of their hobbies? As far as nib prices go, there may be some increase due to popularity, but I think most of it is manufacturing costs and, in Australia, currency fluctuation. Pinballs are not cheap to make. Highly labour and materials intensive. And they really haven't benefited a lot from technology because they are still mostly mechanical. There really isn't much difference between a pin now and from the 90's. My guess is a nib pin in the 90's would have cost the same if not more as a 2014 pin. Even without inflation. Stern was losing money for a long time and are only just beginning to make a profit. But I think that's mostly due to higher volumes rather than gouging. Will be interesting if new technology integration can encourage younger users into the hobby. P3 looks pretty cool. But even so, I don't think future generations will have the money or the space to own a pin. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  11. Even though you ruined some nice machines it's pretty impressive work. But 3 pinbots!! Where do you even get 3 pinbots??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Nah, that would have to be on a pinball forum..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Exactly why I questioned the thread being closed. He's even got come custom sound in there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Looking for a good Pinball parts supplier I actually like the idea thunderbirds is coming directly from china - I think it will be better quality than many US machines ( which are all made in China if not assembled there). My guess is that with thunderbirds we will get more for our money than other pins for this reason. Chinese manufacturing is of a higher standard than almost every other country because it is the only country where there is still investment in manufacturing. All the best equipment is being installed in China. To date all they have lacked is design and possibly QC. As long as that's sorted the results will be world class. Sorry to the OP....a bit off topic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Don't really care either way about the show.......I care more that it looks like they've ruined a perfectly good pinbot (?). Anyway, probably a bit of good publicity for pinball in general. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Block pinball Yeh, that's why the original post had 42 replies none of which were from me.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Got it. So it's political thing. I don't know anything about the history of bumper, but my point was, if you looked at the post on face value, with no knowledge of the politics, it was a story that might be of interest to the community as a whole. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. When u get your new thunderbirds you will. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I try all the locals first and then only if they don't have what I want I look OS. Locally I have dealt with pspa and rtbb and both are good. As is Mr Pinball - have never had a problem with any of them. OS Marco, planetary pinball and pinball life are all good in the us, but freights always a killer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Not that I really care about the Block or Bumper Action, but why was the thread closed? I didn't see too much self promotion there - was just an interesting pin story. Am I missing something? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Did u pick that up in wyong on the weekend? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Ouch. Actually found a 2nd listing before this one in June (lot7481) and looks like most of it sold. But the prices weren't as cheap as u would imagine - pretty close to today's prices. Must have been a phenomenal collection - some really nice ems as well. Would have been hard to let go.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. That sucks. Seems like stle has some teething problems. Might be the case with all Sterns. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  24. What am I looking at? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Wish I was buying pins 8 years ago. Stumbled upon this listing from Lawson's auctions in 2006. http://www.lawsons.com.au/asp/searchresults.asp?pg=1&ps=100&st=D&sale_no=7507+++ Did anyone on Aussie Arcade buy some of these? It's a huge collection - any ideas where it was from? Amazing how many were unsold!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
