  1. Bumping this up because I managed to get an answer by purchasing an official owner's manual. For some reason, my Google-fu couldn't locate a good copy of the deluxe manual. There are a couple of really obvious brackets that need to be unbolted and removed from the cabinet as per the diagrams below. Now, the less obvious part is that you need to remove the floor panel and unplug the wiring harness. There is also a wiring harness for the gearbox which you will need to access by pulling out the gearbox. Note that there is also a hidden bolt that needs to be removed from the Coin Mech side of the cabinet. I hope that helps other folks who are presented with the same issue.
  2. Scud Race Deluxe One of the problems with Scud Race was that I only had one channel of audio - the right speaker feed for background music. Based on previous experience, bad audio amplifiers had always been the culprit so I did the usual thing and got Jomac to refurb all three amplifiers. Sadly the same issue persisted - just one channel of audio. I could hear buzzing in the speakers when I turned the sound VR up so I knew the amplifiers were at least connected. I took a punt and decided to get a new DSP board as that was the next link in the chain. Thankfully the new DSP board fixed most of the issues, giving me sound effects back. The issue with only having one channel of music persists so I am going to to try a new sound board tomorrow. Although the amps might have been fine, it's still nice to have a refurbished audio section.
  3. Yes, similar experiences for me too growing up. I have already got a Super Famicom disc drive. I just need one for the Neo Geo.
  4. Facebook marketplace delivers again, this time with a Super Magic Drive attached to a 50/60hz modded Asian Megadrive. it has "TV Game City" Kedron, 181 Gympie Road stickers all over it. I'm still yet to test it but the seller said it was working. I'm stoked to find one of these.
  5. Black Rose & Mary Shelly Frankenstein Tweaks continue with Black Rose but it is very playable in its current form. One of the mods that I have done is to install stadium type lights which are tied into the general illumination circuit. As good as Pinstadium lights look, I couldn't get over the cost. The nail in the coffin for me was that the Pinstadium App didn't work on my phone which is a modern Galaxy S22. To make my stadium lights, I grabbed a few meters of 6v LED light strips from Pinball Haus, as well as some 90 degree black aluminium edges from Bunnings. I made a wiring harness that got 6V from two different circuits and also added Molex connectors for easy removal. I went with white light on the Black Rose and Purple lights on the Mary Shelly Frankenstein. The room with both of these games is very dark and Black Rose was nearly unplayable without bringing in additional lights to illuminate the top area of the playfield. Now with the stadium lights not only is it much easier to play but the artwork really pops. If the folks at Pinstadium want to sponsor me then I would be happy to write a comprehensive review of their product. 🙂 Daytona USA #2 I was experiencing some power issues with the second Daytona USA cabinet. The first and biggest issue was that I was not getting AC from the transformer. Whenever I went to switch it on there was a strong mechanical vibration at about 50HZ. Given that this machine had been under water, there was a very real risk that something had come lose in the transformer and the vibration was indeed a 50HZ hum caused by the incoming AC voltage. Luckily there is lots of information about how to fix a buzzing transformer so I wasn't too worried. As it turns out, the mechanical buzzing wasn't the transformer, but the magnetic switch responsible for switching the high current. The part is a Fuji SC-03 Magnetic Contactor and you can see it in the bottom left f the image above. I took the transformer board out of the cabinet and fired it up on the bench and I could see the black switch in the middle of the device rapidly going up and down. If you have got other Sega cabinets (Megalo 410 comes to mind) the "thunk" sound when you turn it on is one of these magnetic contactors activating. Although I am sure they serve a very important purpose, you can bypass the contactor if needed. I ended up bypassing the broken contactor as a short term fix while I awaited a replacement. The next issue with the Daytona was a very tired DC power supply. When I fired the cabinet up, I would get a grey cross-hatching on the screen for about five minutes before the board fully powered on. Jomac came to the rescue again and rebuilt my DC power supplies for me. With the rebuilt PSU in place the game fires up first time, every time. I hope some of this information helps fellow backyarders!
  6. Comrades. I only have access to one of Daytona machines at the moment so I cannot swap / compare parts. Can someone please confirm what the LEDs on the Sound Board do under normal operation? I have a red LED on the top board which remains on, but the set of alternating Red and Green LEDs isn't doing anything.
  7. You could be right but Sega tend to use a different type of connector for AC voltages. The connector is usually larger like CN2 below. The board below is Solid State Relay board that would activate a "leader lamp". You could try and trace your four pin connector back and see if it leads to CN2.
  8. TE Connectivity Amp plugs... https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/wire-housings-plugs/7100028 Sega tend to use the 4 pin plug for audio. I know that in the Daytona Deluxe cabs this plug is in the header but not used. You may not need it.
  9. I am not 100% positive because so much time had passed but I believe the board I got was a different board but working.
  10. He had one of my boards for nearly a year. I had to visit him in person and got my board back. Be prepared to wait and follow-up.
  11. Hi @prktkljokr. Sadly the virtua racing ones are different. I think that this particular amp is unique to Daytona Deluxe and Scud Race Deluxe but not 100%.
  12. I'm after a verified and working Sega 838-10141 audio mixer and amplifier as used in Scud Race and Daytona.
  13. AliExpress has them. They will usually be longer. I just cut my down to the correct size. Search for - "5Pcs Mini Micro Limit Switch NO NC 3 Pins PCB Term"
  14. Very nice resto. I recommend giving these a try for paint and rust removal. They tend to work a lot faster than the drill type tools. You'll need an angle grinder, but very much worth it. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/norton-norton-beartex-rapid-strip-disc-extra-coarse-115mm-x-22mm/119751.html?cgid=SCA01130303
  15. Really great to see another Australian company giving this a go and I hope that they do well and can build a brand from this. I like how they have stuck with a more traditional cabinet design and layout. If you had this pinball in a lineup of 80s-90s pins it would not look out of place. Given the theme of the pinball and the fact that it appears to be intentionally derivative then I do not see this as an issue at all as it is playing to particular nostalgic vibe. (with the bonus of modern electronics and a warranty to go with it). In terms of price point, $12K AUD is pretty reasonable given the limited production number and cost of manufacturing here in Australia. At the end of the day, things like this are a luxury item and there will always be a market segment that this will appeal too. Again, I wish them all the best and really happy to see another Australian giving this a go.
