Small picture

CRAZED

Recommended Posts

I had my monitor or chassis poop it today on a game that froze, when i seen it the cab stunk like burning electical parts.

It was displaying a small part of the picture in the middle of the screen with threst of the screen blank, i tried to work out what went wrong and i thought it might have been the flyback as there were lines running through it like when the flyback is turned up to high. I turned it down shut the monitor off turned it back on and nothing. Flyback????

It's really common for the flybacks on these to fail , but in this case it appears your deflection yoke has shorted .

If you pulled the yoke off the tube and look on the inside you will see where it has burnt / melted some of the windings together.

There is also another fault that effects these chassis that can appear with the same symptoms so to be certain you need to inspect the yoke or test the chassis on another tube .

In some cases the shorted yoke will also cause the B+ section of the chassis to fail resulting in a small picture., the 2 later later faults are evident by the picture taking much longer to come up to normal brightness.

Yeah you should know they can be a pain in the butt to get off :)

No need to discharge but if it makes you feel safer use the Braided earth strap around the tube as an discharge point .

I always mark the convergence rings and yoke with a texture so you can put them back exactly where they were if you need to put them back on.

It can be tricky getting the rings off in one piece so try putting your hand around all of them so it comes off in one piece without moving each individual ring.

I havent had a chance to find out the problem yet

but looking at the above quote in your post i see that if the problem was the deflection yoke it could mean that both the tube and

chassis could be faulty. Would that be right?

Yes my mum showed me this... its very easy... you crack the egg in half over a cup and slowly pour into each half of the shell............. OH:redface..... you mean YOKE as in the copper thing around the neck of your tube...:lol

Anyway I would have though measuring the X and Y resistance on the yoke would give an idea of if its shorted or not???

Ive never played with tubes so if your offering any assistance id be appreciative.

Yeah you crack an egg and seperate the yolk from the white add some shit here and there and somehow you get a cake, unfortunatly i never did learn the cake making process. Can you delve into that, with all your experience:D
