Turn Old TV's into Arcade Monitors

Many people dont realise that the CRT's used in cheaper brand TV's like Akai , Teac , Orion and many others can be used for a CGA arcade monitor when matched to a universal chassis.

These Chassis can be set up to run any CRT ( except computer monitor CRT's ) from 13" to 21" , 8 , 10 or 12pin types .

All you need to do is specify the amount pins on the CRT and the measure the yoke , I will do the rest .

http://www.jomac.net.au/tech-stuff-2/how-to-check-how-many-pins-your-crt-has/

These chassis are freevoltage and can operate from 85v to 265v AC and are very simple to connect with all the supplied cables and plugs.

There are also several cheaper brand 25" to 33" TV's that can be matched to a universal Dual Res 15 / 25K chassis , send me a pic of the yoke and the readings and I can tell you if it is suitable .

Lately I have seen countless amounts of the cheaper TV's put out on the street for council rubbish collections , just rip the tube out and throw the rest away .

If you have any questions dont be afraid to ask .

Ah ok , that was an issue on the first revision , there are some parts that differ between 12 and 10 pin CRT's .

The 12 Pin needs an additional alignment coil and and couple of other parts added which is no extra cost, all you have to do is specify the type of CRT it is going onto .

There was no need for the pot after the coil value was worked out correctly .

Yes with the later 20 / 21" types , as long as they are 8 or 10 pin .

So not 27" flat then?

Do you repair tv's? as this TV has scart, so I could still use it if fixed.

hey joey,

whats is yoke tolerence range of your chassis in regards to inductance as well as resistance for the cga only and the dual cga/ega chassis

I have different variations for nearly every type of yoke down to 1.2 ohms Horizontal and 5.5 ohms vertical ohms for 23" and above , and from 1.6 H to 56 Ohms up to 21" .

There are way to many different variation I have to specify , but if anyone has a tubes and wants to know if I can match a chassis to it just ask and tell you.

There are some larger flat screen TV's I am happy with but not enough to say yeah I can do them all , so if you want to bring it in I will either fix what you have and or try with new chassis and see what you think :)

Remember if it Sony it's useless !

Joey,

does this mean you have a replacement for the nanao ms2932 chassis,i read the yoke and found the following readings

Rh 0.6 ohms

Lh 196mh

Rv 6.9 ohms

Lv 13.8mh

i know a lot of people are looking for a tri sync replacement for this chassis although from what i can gather this is a high res yoke and a tri sync is out of question.

Nanao are out there on there own , basically I cant supply a replacement for any Nanao chassis in the MS8 or MS9 / MS29 Series .

I can replace anything before these in KZ or MS7 Series .

The problem with Tri Res is that it was never needed in the Amusement machine industry for virtually anything at all except in smaller 14" and 20" used in Pokies.

Later a few manufacturers expanded their range to include larger monitors and most people know how this went. ( a disaster in most cases )

There has been more of a demand for Tri Res by home Mame's than there ever was by amusement machine manufacturers so some have tried to fill the gap but most have failed in making one that lasts.

I think guys running mame need to realize that 99% of the games they are emulating are 15K native , more work has been done to convert PC signals to suit arcade than arcade monitors made to suit PC . I think stick with what works than try to re-invent the wheel to make it more round :)

How about LG CRT's are they suitable for a chasis? I have one in the garage that is not working. It would be about 68cm id say.

If you can tell me the yoke readings I can confirm , but in most cases Yes I can match up a chassis to these .

nec are good dual res tubes

got one sitting on my hardwaste heap atm. if anyone wants me to rescue it. was going to hoard it but getting tight for room

Come on Shannon , I would leave the car outside to save one of those tubes they are awesome and RARE!! :)

Hey joey, iv'e already sent an email thru to you but not sure if you received it as it has returned back to me, anyhow i have a 14" Golstar monitor (7+1 pins) and the model number is A34KPU02XX, i need a chassis to suit for cardie cabinet , do you need anymore info on the monitor?. Or is it cheaper for me to buy a ARCADE RGB to TV converter, that way i can use the original chassis, let me know whats best, cheers Al
