Pinball Pool completed!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, my second Pinball Pool restoration is finished....finally.

I have kept AA updated with progress but here it is, all condensed into 1 thread.

Simon, bet you never thought that old goat herder's toilet would turn out like this hey? :D

This machine was bought as a left over after one of Simon's auctions at Amusementworx. Cabinet was hacked, backglass cracked to buggery, multi layers of mylar on a horrific playfield, apron had been repainted in most areas by hand.

.

Stripping mylar from the playfield resulted in 90% of the paint coming with it. I think this was because the paint had delaminated from the wood and was stuck to the mylar as a result of moisture over the years. So the playfield was fully stripped and clear coated with several layers of acrylic clear, sanded smooth. Cabinet stripped ready for repainting. Insides scraped clean of dirt, vacuumed and then sanded with 120 grit on a mouse sander.

I bought a nice clean playfield from Illawarra-Steelers (thanks mate :023: ) that I scanned, digitally retouched and had printed locally. I didn't want to do a wiring transplant. It is printed on a thick vinyl, high UV resistance and a special high stick adhesive backing. Aligned and applied to the blank playfield. Inserts were totally shot as well, they were all sanded flat and clean of any lettering. Insert overlays were also made up, when applied to the inserts it evens out most misalignment between the holes and their black surrounds.

Drop targets were filthy and a couple of the wrong color. Target banks were disassembled, cleaned and targets put through the dishwasher (while the boss was out shopping). New faces applied to the targets and re-installed. Nice shot in the dark of the playfield, repainted and re-decalled apron and new backglass (right kicker globe already blown!). Closeup of the playfield that has been waxed several times with pure carnauba wax.

Coin door, siderails, cabinet artwork all finished as well. Flippers were rebuilt but are still a little sluggish (working on that one). Otherwise she is all ready for sale!

Well done Brad, must be one of your toughest projects yet. I have seen this pin though the stages and it was amazing to see the transformation and now the end product. Looks like alot of blood and sweat when into this one. Now that this is done - time to work on the Doctor.
