Getting back into Consoles - what Xbox chip?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am looking for some advice in getting back into the console seen after a few years out. I use to be a massive Sega master system, SNES/Mega Drive addict back when I was younger and I did get an Xbox and PS2 when they first came out. For whatever reason I sold everything soon after I got those last two consoles and really haven’t played a console since.

Over the past year I have bought a Lowboy and I have enjoyed playing the older games I use to play as a kid. I have since then bought a SNES and I have been building up my library.

I am now looking at getting an XBOX but I have been out of the seen for so long I don’t know where to start. Basically I will get a 2nd hand one but I am not sure what Mods I need to get. My mate use to have one and he had a few SNES and mega drive games on there. I am sure they just run on emulators, but do you need a chip to do this?. He also has a feature where he can put an xbox game in and copy to his hard-drive.

What would people recommend I get and where I should get it done? I was just planing to get the consoles from EB, to take advantage of their 12 month warranty – and send it away for a modchip/upgrade

Hopefully after I have caught up on some xbox games I will move up to the 360 at the end of the year. But for now just want to play some old games and some newer ones.

Thanks heaps for any help

Xecuter 3 CE chip from Divineo about $70 or the cheaper DuoX 2 GS for about $25.

I've only installed the Xecuter and I think it's the ducks butt.

I run Xbox media center as the main dash and DVD2Xbox applicaiton for copying games.

Emulators run like any application from whatever dashboard you install.

Might need a bigger HDD if you're dumping games, ROMS etc

You can also soft mod as an option.

EB games was flogging trade-ins off for $105.

Around here they give ya like $80. We're getting ripped off by EB!

Oh wait thats the norm...

Anyway:-

Cheapest: Softmod

Price: $0

Most Expensive with features 99.99% of ppl will never use and dont know about: Xecuter 3 CE

Price: $85

Best Bang for Buck: DuoX 2/Aladdin live/DuoX 2 Lite (Only one flash bank as opposed to two on the original)

Price: $20-$35

I would go with the DuoX 2. ;)
