the games

having just moved from America and American prices, I wasn't paying close attention to the games to buy. So take this with a grain of salt...

Some games seemed to be playing well, but... were in the general state where they need new fuses, ball returns broken, targets not registering, parts fixed, etc... for a collector who can fix pins this wouldn't be a huge issue for a "just want a game for home" kind of family it would be a bit disappointing. A few of the new/mid-era games had odd/mismatched plastics (bk2k is one that springs to mind) In general they were a heck-of-alot cleaner than what we would see at a California auction.

Honestly though I was camera happy and didn't pay much attention to the state of the games. At one stage, someone working on them suggested I play instead of taking photos! ha!

Auction Feedback

Approx 300 people there

120 odd pinballs

15% buyer premium on top of hammer price

Free Local Delivery

Looks like most 90s games were container pins from Germany and were really rough

after about 2 hours numbers dropped to 70 people

Prices also dropped

Corvette 2200

less than a Fishtales

The older 70s ss games went for mid 1,000 to low $2,000

Ems low to mid 1,000

Collector abc TV was there as well as TV and some woman from the UK doing a Documentary.

I would have been dissappointed if it was my auction, however if i had to guess they probably sold 200k

Sydney July 2007 Auction Results and Pictures

Here are the results as I got them don't forget to add the 15% buyers premium.

Most pins worked with numerous faults present, any pin marked as working got free delivery and a guarantee that it would be serviced and working before it got delivered.

I think that most pins were over priced for their condition, but don't feel sorry for anybody that did buy one, listening to them talk before the auction they had spent more time picking what shoes to wear than actually researching for their "big" investment. So caveat emptor (buyer beware) as the auctioneers say. These people all smiled like idiots as once again the Sydney pinball Guru's bent them over the pin tables and deflowered them, so I'm sorry no feeling of compassion from here.

I think the best comment of the day goes to the father of three overly eager kids who paid about $4000 for a pin just so he could leave to watch the football. Seriously with attitudes like that they deserved to get fleeced.

I'm not defending this auction in anyway, just don't want to hear about the poor mums snd dads that got ripped off, for fuck sake they just had to get on the net and do some research !!

Cheers, :D:D:D

thanks Way - any comment on the quality of the Addams machines? I couldn't make it but wanted to see what they were like.

The Addams were average, not worth the money in my opinion. The playfields had slight wear and were generally dirty and felt "loose" to play.

The surprise of the day was the 8 ball deluxe at $2900 what a turd, the playfield was beyond trashed, the backglass was flakey and the plastics were average.

Sorry Tony, they didn't have any posters for the auction, the closest thing would have been the hand written sign pointing to the carpark, thought of grabbing it for you, but you could probably knock up something better yourself. Even the catalogue was free for a reason, just a photoopied spreadsheet.

Cheer.:D:D:D

Nah, it was free delivery and a guarantee to get it working if you bought a pin that they knew didn't work before the auction, so judging by the amount of problems with most that did work they must have been seriously stuffed !!

I went as well (only stayed for the biddinbg on about 40 of the auction lots) and it was a much better run affair than the two last year.

Overall, the machines were in better condition, although there were still a few German ones going around.

Most machines that I played had dirty playfields, and many had weak flippers too but (and other interesting problems). Unlike the auction last year you could play almost every DMD game and decide for yourself. Most EM's and SS had some credits but it was a pain finding someone to put credits on.

The auctioneer did give a big talk at the beginning about what you see is what you get, all machines sold as-is and caveat emptor is the thing to remember

AND the auction terms did disclose that there could be vendor bids

Yeah Ric, at least you could play nearly all the machines and it wasn't as "cheesey" as the last two.

I did like the auctioneer telling everybody that even if the machine sold, ring tomorrow and ask because the buyer may not go through with the sale, WTF, I thought it was you bid you buy.Just goes to show they expected a fair amount of "shill" bidding.

I did like the fact that the same guy put in the first bid everytime and never seemed to actually win anything.

For all the hype it was still a circus and I feel yet again Michael was the ringmaster.

I wonder if the newspapers, that told everybody how great an investment these things were going to be could do a follow up on just how great a bargain these machines were??

Cheeers.:D:D:D

Thanks for that - much appreciated - and for all the effort you put into posting the report

Was told by one of the guys at work that on the radio the seller said that he 'put in around 40-50 hours a game into the restoration' :unsure

the sellers were really glossed over - the papers all reported that the seller was "Andrew" - he was there yesterday but there was nothing of the fanfare that they did at the auctions last year
