Found my first pin!

Recommended Posts

Well guys, I've found it.

I've mentioned it to a couple of you, so I think you'll be eager to see, welcome to have a game.

My budget's blown a little out of proportion, but I think it's a good deal. Just so long as I'm not losing money, that's all that matters.

It's also a machine I don't think anyone on the forum owns :)

Just gonna give it a look over with a pin head next week and unless there's something severely wrong with it, all systems are go so to speak.

Question is... where the hell am I gonna put it :unsure , Turtles cab it's time to meet eBay once again

Well if you have that outlook on things, you're not going to be buying many pinballs I'm afraid. Never buy a pinball with the thought of whether you're going to get your money back. Buy it because you want it. It's meant to be a hobby, not a business and hobbies do cost money, no matter what some people might tell you.

Your statement "that's all that matters" worries me a bit. Are you buying it because you won't lose money on it or because you really want the machine? For your own's sake, buy a machine because you want to play it, not because you feel compelled to buy your first machine. Believe me, you'll regret it after 3 weeks when you find you don't really like it after all. Then you're stuck with it and then you get the urge to offload and it all starts again.

Just some advice, do with it what pleases you. :)

Matt, budgets are meant to blown (a little - without going crazy). I hope all goes well and you get it. Keen to check it out.

It's just I'm only 20 and a full time uni student mate. It's highly likely I'm taking next year off and gonna go live in Japan for the year, so if that's the case I might have to sell it by the end of the year :(. Don't really have money to throw around, but it should be a sweet 6 months together if that's the case :)

Don't worry I've thought about it, gone through a lot of machines, settled on two and have decided from there.

By 'all it matters', I mean that in regards to the budget blowing out of proportion, means I can justify it going overboard somewhat ;)

Anyway... It's a mystery until I have it in hand, don't wanna jinx myself until I have it

Well I've put down my deposit so I may as well tell you what machine now then. I'm going to Mellbourne tomorrow arvo but will pick it up in the next couple weeks.

Anyway, the machine I'm getting is..... Safe Cracker

Why Safe Cracker?

• Pat Lawlor design

• Unique

• Late Model

• Smaller size = better for smaller space

• Interesting concept

• Feels and plays solid, lots of nice shots and such, just flows well I found

• Alright price

• Doesn't need to much work, more parts based, fairly simple

There is a few things to fix up, but it's more so about obtaining the parts than it is any physical work as such (there is a little though) and Wayne stocks them. Speaking of which do you reckon you might be able to be able to do a special package deal if I were to pop in next week Wayne? Might pop in next week.

Safecracker is my favourite pin. Nice score.

I recommend you use slightly smaller than standard pinballs in it. To me they seem to work better with the smaller flippers and tight playfield etc.

Be sure to put a cliffy protector on the right hand ramp straight away. It will destroy its Y-junction there within 100 games if you don't, and replacement ramps are not available, nor ever likely to be.

Ah so you own one Virt?

Damn I'm not special :P

That's great though someone can help me out :)

I was thinking the same thing about the balls, they seem a little too big, but it still seemed to flow real nice. It gave me the same feeling as an Addams or Twilight but more in my price range.

The only bit that's worn that's a worry is there is one patch of wear on the whole playfield as far as I saw. It's behind the first bumper, pretty well concealed unless you are looking. It's about the size of a 5c piece and is pretty much just colours. If you've got one and could help with that, it'd be great.

Well done, pretty rare game these days. Is this the one on South Rd at that jukebox guy's place?
